PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kazuy Uesugi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yuko Tsukana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kazuy Uesugi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yuko Tsukana!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Kenichi Hosakawa and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Uesugi shoots for a double leg takedown but Tsukana sprawls well. He's pushed Uesugi's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Tsukana pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Tsukana clinches.

Tsukana escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Yuko Tsukana seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tsukana lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Tsukana throws a right and a left that both miss.

Tsukana closes the distance and clinches.
Tsukana makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

Tsukana breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Tsukana, right into the meat.
Tsukana stuffs the takedown attempt from Uesugi. Uesugi gets slowly back to his feet.
Uesugi is breathing heavily.
Tsukana lands a nice looking body kick.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Tsukana drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tsukana cracks Uesugi with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Tsukana connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Uesugi some visible discomfort.

Tsukana is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Uesugi will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Tsukana lands an elbow.
Tsukana creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Uesugi sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Tsukana looks up at the clock and then as Uesugi takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Tsukana smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Check out the look on Tsukana's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tsukana throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Tsukana decides to stand back up.
Tsukana tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Tsukana works over Uesugi's head and body with a nice combination.
Tsukana lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Tsukana throws a head kick that Uesugi semi-blocks.

Uesugi chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Tsukana can pounce on him.

Uesugi gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Tsukana to score an easy takedown into full guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Tsukana keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Uesugi's head.

Tsukana is looking to work some ground and pound but Uesugi has wrist control.

Uesugi wants to sweep here but Tsukana controlling him for the moment.

Uesugi has momentary wrist control but Tsukana slips an elbow through the middle.
Tsukana lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Tsukana really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Uesugi. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Tsukana postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Tsukana is looking to stand up but Uesugi won't let him.

Uesugi working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Tsukana doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Tsukana manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Tsukana changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Tsukana thuds his shin into the meat of Uesugi's side.

Tsukana breaks from the clinch.
An inside leg kick lands from Tsukana.
Tsukana scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Uesugi steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Tsukana. That one must have hurt.
Both fighters circling a little - Tsukana finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Tsukana with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Uesugi takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Uesugi needs to keep his hands up - Tsukana had a free shot at his head there.

Uesugi tries to keep at a distance but Tsukana has taken the fight into the clinch.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Tsukana breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Tsukana throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Uesugi's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yuko Tsukana dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


No luck for Uesugi with that takedown attempt.
Uesugi leaves Tsukana with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Tsukana misses with an elbow strike.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Tsukana.

Tsukana manages to break the clinch.
Tsukana thumps Uesugi with a low kick.
Tsukana lands a right hook to the body.

Tsukana closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Tsukana breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Tsukana darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Uesugi makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Uesugi.

Tsukana wanted to stand there but Uesugi had control of the position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Tsukana accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Tsukana wants to control from the top but Uesugi keeps moving.
Tsukana must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Tsukana can do anything to dispel that myth.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Tsukana holds on and takes a little breather.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Tsukana is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Uesugi won't allow Tsukana to sweep him here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Uesugi pushing down on Tsukana's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yuko Tsukana showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Tsukana. Uesugi shrugs it off though.

Tsukana gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Tsukana pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Uesugi takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Tsukana throws a nice inside leg kick.
Tsukana lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Tsukana lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Uesugi on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Tsukana throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Tsukana has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Good leg kick by Tsukana there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Nice uppercut lands for Tsukana. That snapped Uesugi's head back.
Uesugi sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Tsukana lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Yuko Tsukana seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Tsukana connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Tsukana lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Tsukana lands a two punch combo.

Tsukana lands a head kick!
Uesugi will be looking to protect his midsection after taking some solid kicks to the body.

Tsukana drives through and clinches with Uesugi against the cage.
Tsukana's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Tsukana escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Tsukana throws a right and a left that Uesugi avoids nicely.
Uesugi darts in trying to clinch
and Uesugi takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Uesugi tries to clinch up but Tsukana circles away and keeps his distance.

Tsukana gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Tsukana breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Tsukana feints and as Uesugi raises his hands in defense, Tsukana changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Uesugi will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Tsukana postures up in Uesugi's guard and throws a big left but Uesugi blocks it.

Tsukana trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Tsukana throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Uesugi works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Uesugi is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Tsukana is trying to get back to full guard.
Uesugi is looking to stall here but Tsukana recovers full guard.

Tsukana has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Tsukana wants to sweep but no luck.
Tsukana has his hands on Uesugi's head, controlling the position.

Yuko Tsukana comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Tsukana has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
