PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Frank Castle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carida Machido (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carida Machido!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Castle as Machido shoots in.
Machido tries to clinch but Castle moves out of range.
Castle has his takedown stuffed

and Machido counters with a shoot takedown. Castle fights it but they end up in guard.
Machido trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Castle throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Machido postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Castle is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Machido, into his guard.

Machido works over Castle with some ground and pound from guard.
Machido lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Castle seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Machido stands up over Castle, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Machido throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Castle works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Castle is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Castle knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Machido on the ground.
Machido postures up and lands a big shot to Castle's brow.

Machido keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Castle's head.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Machido's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Machido stands up over Castle, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Machido drops back looking for a leg! Castle is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Castle manages to kick Machido off! Machido jumps back into Castle's guard.

Machido throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Castle works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Machido is looking to work some ground and pound but Castle has wrist control.
Castle wants to sweep but no luck.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Machido decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Castle's guard.
Machido trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Castle forces Machido back against the cage and clinches.
Machido tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Castle smiles and moves away.

and Machido decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Castle's guard.

Castle is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Machido is aware though and is defending well.

Castle working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Machido doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Machido manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

The referee warns Castle that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Castle is desperately trying to improve his position but Machido has a good base and remains in mount.

Castle wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Machido.

You get the feeling that Castle really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Machido is working for a guillotine from mount but Castle frees his head quite easily.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Machido cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carida Machido showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Machido accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Machido is trying to control the action in half guard but Castle is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
