PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Shar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jomu Allen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Allen is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by The Great One. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Shar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jomu Allen!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Daniel Franklin and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Shar. No joy for Allen on that attempt.

Shar moves into the clinch.
Allen slows down the pace here.

Shar has Allen pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Shar pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Allen tumbling to the mat - Shar dives into Allen's guard.
Allen wants to get back to his feet but Shar is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Allen looking for a sweep. Not yet Allen, not yet.
Allen wants to stand up but Shar is controlling him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shar cracks Allen with a solid left hand.

Shar controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Shar slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Allen has his foot on Shar's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Shar works his way back into a safe position though.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Allen is on top in guard.
Shar has his hands on Allen's head, controlling the position.
Allen looks gassed!

Shar pushes Allen off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Shar drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Shar has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Shar takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Allen wants to hold on but Shar pushes him away.
Shar controlling the pace for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Shar prevents Allen from getting the reversal.
Shar content just to control the position here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shar tries for a takedown but Allen circles away easily
and Allen counters with a nice body kick.

Shar moves into the clinch successfully.

Shar decides to pull guard.
Allen trying to control the position from guard on top but Shar is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Allen won't allow Shar to sweep him here.
Shar not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Shar manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Allen manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Allen makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Shar gets a clinch.

Shar is trying to trip Allen. He has hold of a leg but Allen is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Shar persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Shar is looking to stand up but Allen won't let him.

Shar slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Shar avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Shar's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Shar wanted to stand there but Allen had control of the position.
Shar content to stall in guard here.
Allen is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Shar is controlling him.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Mike Shar just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Allen shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Shar counters with a good, hard body kick but Allen shrugs it off.
Allen on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Shar looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Mike Shar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Shar bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! And we move into the final round!



Shar forces Allen back against the cage and clinches.
Stalling in the clinch from Allen.
Shar has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Allen avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Allen is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Shar misses with a knee to the head.

Shar breaks the clinch.

Shar shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Allen manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Allen wants to stand but Shar is controlling the position.
Shar works over Allen with some ground and pound from guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Shar would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Mike Shar overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Allen wants to get back to his feet but Shar is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Shar in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Allen controls Shar momentarily but Shar frees himself.
Shar is stalling in the full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Allen is working an open guard so Shar takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Shar changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Allen looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Allen is trying to improve his position.
Shar is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Allen will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Allen looks to move to half guard but instead Shar has passed into mount! Damn!

Shar sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Shar is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Shar takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Allen takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Shar controlling his opponent.
Shar's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Jomu Allen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Mike Shar is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
