PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Big Bastard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fred Burton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Burton has chosen Carcass - Keep on Rotting in the Free World as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Big Bastard!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Fred Burton!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Ackerman and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burton lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Burton.
Burton tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Bastard was well out of range. Poor timing from Burton.
Burton tries to clinch up but Bastard circles away and keeps his distance.
Bastard throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Burton's head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Bastard misses with a two punch combination.
Bastard tries to close the distance and clinch up but Burton swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Bastard is looking to clinch.

Burton drives through with a takedown into guard.
Burton throws a strike but Bastard rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Bastard wants to control from the top but Burton keeps moving.
Burton wants to stand but Bastard is controlling the position.
Bastard stopping the sweep attempt from Burton.
Bastard prevents Burton from getting back to his feet.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bastard is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Bastard doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Burton counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Burton is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Burton throwing shots but Bastard is blocking nicely.

Burton winds up and cracks Bastard with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Burton looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Burton throws and elbow that misses. Bastard uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Burton's guard. Nice move by Bastard!

Burton looking for a sweep. Not yet Burton, not yet.
Bastard wants to control from the top but Burton keeps moving.

Burton has his feet on Bastard's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Bastard shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Burton counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Bastard's guard now.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Burton looking to sit in guard and control but Bastard gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Burton wants to stand but Bastard is controlling the position.

Burton is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Burton keeps control of Bastard as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Bastard breaks from the clinch.
Burton misses with a wild combination.
Bastard shoots in looking for a takedown. Burton tries to sprawl out of it but Bastard keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Burton manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Big Bastard. That's going to take a lot out of him.

so Burton counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Burton is fighting to break Bastard's control of his arms but Bastard is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Burton decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Bastard makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Bastard.

Burton must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Burton accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

and Burton counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Burton feints and as Bastard raises his hands in defense, Burton changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Burton in particular looking to stall.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Burton explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Bastard throws a right and a left that Burton avoids nicely.
Burton chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Bastard can pounce on him.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Burton working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Bastard wants to improve his position but Burton is controlling well.

Fred Burton showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Burton fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Bastard sprawls well initially but Burton persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Burton looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bastard with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Burton is trying to control the action in half guard but Bastard is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Burton throws a strike but Bastard avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Bastard avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Bastard will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Burton decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Bastard, up you get!

Bastard tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Burton smiles and moves away.
Bastard fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Big Bastard. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bastard loads up on a big right hand but Burton slips the punch.
Bastard fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Burton is out of range.
Burton fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Burton lands a left and a right that sends Bastard crashing to the canvas! Burton dives into mount looking to finish!


Bastard is rocked!


It looks like Big Bastard has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Oooh a big shot lands for Burton! Bastard is out! The ref dives in to save him from more punishment!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:05 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Fred Burton! Fred Burton retains his super heavyweight title!
