PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Arttu Loppi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeet Kun Do (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Loppi kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is unleash. Do is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Mama Said Knock You Out. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Arttu Loppi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jeet Kun Do!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Roosa Järviläinen and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Loppi or perhaps it was just good defense by Do which made him look bad.
Do throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Loppi sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Do stuffs the takedown.
Loppi will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Arttu Loppi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nice takedown defense from Do. No joy for Loppi on that attempt.
Do thuds a left hand into Loppi's body.
Loppi is breathing heavily.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Loppi.
Do gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Do wants to improve his position but Loppi is controlling well.
Do wants to control but Loppi is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Do kicks Loppi off and gets back to his feet.

Do waves his right hand out in front of him, looking to distract Loppi. Oh, he's unloaded a beast of a left hand - it worked! He's dropped Loppi to the canvas! Can he finish him!?

It looks like Arttu Loppi has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Do drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Do jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Oh Loppi is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Loppi will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Do is pushing down on Loppi's leg trying to pass to half guard. Loppi is fighting to maintain full guard but Do has managed to sneak the leg through.
Loppi seems to have got his legs back now.

Do tries to stand but can't do so whilst Loppi controls his leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Do wants to pass to mount but Loppi is defending the position.

Do trying to mount his opponent but Loppi defends it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Do stuffs the takedown.

Do pushes Loppi up against the cage in a clinch.
Do creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Loppi's defenses.
Do lands an elbow inside.
Do lands a damaging elbow.
Do lands a body punch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Do lands an elbow inside that Loppi shrugs off.

Do jumps guard and drags Loppi to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Do looking to control.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Do is on top in guard.
Do wants to control from the top but Loppi keeps moving.
Do wants to get up but he can't break Loppi's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Do stands and throws Loppi's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Loppi is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Do's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Do is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Loppi defends it well.

Do is keen to just control but Loppi is a slippery customer.

Loppi is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Do pulls his head out easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Do stands up from half guard.
Loppi takes a kick to the side of the head.
Arttu Loppi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Loppi shoots in and bounces Do off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Loppi cracks Do with a solid left hand.

Loppi trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Do manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Do looking to control and managing it successfully.
Loppi tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Loppi is working hard here to advance position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Do with the ground and pound from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jeet Kun Do dominated that round.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Do throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Do scores with the left hand. Loppi knows he should have avoided that one.
Loppi gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Loppi gets a takedown into half guard.
Do avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Loppi.

Loppi looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Do has one foot on Loppi's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Do rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Loppi moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Do's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Do duly obliges.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Do ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Jeet Kun Do is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Loppi shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Do as he jumps to the side.

Do closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Do is leaning against Loppi and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Do throws a knee to the head but misses.
Do using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
Do lands a knee to the body.
Do landing knees to the body.
Loppi has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Do avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Do lands a shot to the body.
Loppi tries to work over Do's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
With the fighters up against the cage, Do throws an elbow but misses.

Loppi has clasped his hands together around Do's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Do taking punishment in the form of punches.

Do tries to kick Loppi off but Loppi keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Do on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Loppi shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Loppi was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Do is wriggling around trying to escape.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A nice elbow there by Loppi.
Do tries to hold on but Loppi postures up.
Loppi pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Do taking shots to the head.
You get the feeling that Do really doesn't like being in this position too much.
BOOM! Loppi connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Loppi is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Do to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Do shrugs it off.
Loppi throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Loppi is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Do doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Loppi.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Do gets full guard.
Loppi throwing strikes from guard but Do blocks nicely.

Loppi has gone for a leg lock! Do slips out almost immediately though and dives into Loppi's guard.
Do controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Loppi has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Loppi had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Do defends it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jeet Kun Do showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Loppi takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Do clinches with his opponent.
Loppi doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Loppi is leaning against Do and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Loppi tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Do just stands there and leans against the cage.

Loppi manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Loppi is looking to sinch up a triangle. Do throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Loppi's body to avoid the submission. Loppi has instead reached around Do's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Loppi arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:39 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Arttu Loppi!
