PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Gunn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Hendry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hendry comes into a darkened arena with his song building. You Don't Know kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Tommy Gunn!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Mark Hendry!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Chris Edwards and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hendry shoots for a double leg takedown but Gunn sprawls well. He's pushed Hendry's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Gunn throws a body punch but Hendry moves out of range.
Gunn changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Gunn is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Hendry.
Gunn throws a right and a left that both miss.

Hendry shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Gunn but Gunn pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Hendry avoids the body shot from Gunn.

Oooh a lovely combination from Gunn sends Hendry down but not out. Gunn dives into side control looking to finish.


Hendry is rocked!


It looks like Mark Hendry has been cut.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gunn staying calm.
Hendry is still in real trouble! Can Gunn finish him?

Hendry seems to have recovered his senses.
Gunn trying to control the action but Hendry is working from the bottom.
Hendry seems a little lost for a moment, as Gunn dominates the positioning.
Hendry is looking to regain half guard here but Gunn keeps moving and retains side control.
Gunn is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Hendry tries to improve position but can't.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Tommy Gunn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Gunn misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Gunn throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Hendry.
Some wild striking there from Gunn.
Gunn jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Tommy Gunn is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Gunn throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Hendry uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Gunn.

Gunn drops Hendry with a right and a left! Gunn comes rushing in but Hendry regains his composure and manages to keep Gunn in guard.
Gunn content to stall in guard here.
Gunn wants to control from the top but Hendry keeps moving.

Gunn avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Gunn is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Hendry working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gunn doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gunn manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Hendry has his foot on Gunn's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gunn works his way back into a safe position though.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Tommy Gunn just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Gunn throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gunn connects with a good right hand that stumbles Hendry. Hendry circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Hendry shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Gunn misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hendry.
Gunn misses with a hook. Hendry ducked under it nicely.
Gunn misses with a wild combination.
Hendry avoids the body shot from Gunn.
Gunn rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hendry moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gunn throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Gunn fails to land with a series of punches.
A big left from Gunn misses.
Gunn cracks Hendry with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Gunn throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Gunn throws a body punch but Hendry moves out of range.

Hendry fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Gunn sprawls well initially but Hendry persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Hendry looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Gunn is trying to get back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Hendry in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Gunn tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Hendry!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Mark Hendry! Mark Hendry retains his lightweight title!
