Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gustavo Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kyle Wellwood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendes fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Wellwood avoids it really well and circles away.
Mendes doesn't manage to clinch there - Wellwood circles away.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Wellwood can do anything to dispel that myth.
Wellwood looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mendes is one step ahead there.
Mendes is pushing down on Wellwood's leg trying to pass to half guard. Wellwood is fighting to maintain full guard but Mendes has managed to sneak the leg through.

Mendes is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Mendes tries to clinch but Wellwood is having none of it.

Mendes shoots for a takedown but Wellwood saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Gustavo Mendes will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Wellwood leaves Mendes with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Mendes drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wellwood is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Mendes asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Mendes wants to control the pace but Wellwood is squirming around nicely.

Mendes has control of Wellwood's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Wellwood regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Wellwood sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Mendes lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Mendes has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Wellwood defend it? Mendes steps over the head and cranks it - Wellwood is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Mendes!
