PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Fabio Lima (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Rudd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Lima might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Enter Sandman, Metallica. Rudd has chosen Bob Marley - Get Up Stand Up as his entrance music. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Fabio Lima!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Chris Rudd!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Damien Edna and Steve Erwin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lima swats away the attempt to clinch by Rudd.
Lima tries to clinch up.
Horrible takedown by Rudd or perhaps it was just good defense by Lima which made him look bad.
Lima tries a head kick but it misses.
Rudd tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lima swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Lima tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Rudd dives in and grabs Lima's left leg, looking for a takedown. Lima pushes down on Rudd's head and hops out.
Lima throws a right and a left that Rudd avoids nicely.

Lima shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rudd but Rudd pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Rudd darts in and clinches Lima up against the cage.
Lima tries to land a knee to the head but Rudd blocks with his arms.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lima is trying to maintain a safe position but Rudd gets an underhook and turns Lima into the cage.
Lima using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Rudd has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Lima has hold of one of Rudd's legs. Rudd is fighting the takedown attempt but Lima gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Lima drops back, looking for a kneebar! Rudd looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Rudd looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Rudd!

Rudd has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Lima pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Lima moves in looking to clinch but Rudd pushes him off.
Lima throws a head kick but Rudd moves out of range.
Lima is breathing heavily.

Lima misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Rudd throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Rudd lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

It looks like Fabio Lima has been cut.
Rudd shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Lima defends it nicely.

Rudd fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Lima is out of range.
Rudd shoots for a takedown but Lima saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Lima tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rudd swats him away and circles back towards the center.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rudd stands up from mount. Strange move.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
A left and a right from Rudd both land. Nice combination.
Rudd is looking to clinch.
Rudd closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Rudd shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Lima napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Lima tries to buck Rudd off but Rudd is having none of it.
Lima is trying to escape the position but Rudd is controlling the position.

Rudd decides to stand back up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rudd throws a low kick but Lima avoids it.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Lima is defended easily by Rudd.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rudd's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Lima goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Rudd turns into him and now he's in Lima's guard.

Rudd stands up and waves to Lima to follow him.

A short body shot lands from Rudd as the two fighters clinch.

That was a close second round but I would say that Fabio Lima will probably get the nod.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Rudd looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Rudd throws a nice looking combination but Lima bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Rudd swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Lima misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Fabio Lima is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Rudd will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Lima closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Lima lands in his opponent's guard.

Lima wants to get up but he can't break Rudd's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Rudd shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Lima pinned against the cage. Lima gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Lima pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Rudd closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Lima did well to prevent Rudd getting side control.
Lima has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rudd is working away from the top position though.

Well Rudd has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
