PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Miles DAvis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Hinuri (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). DAvis comes to the cage accompanied by Miles DAvis - someday my prince will come. Miles DAvis has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Miles DAvis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jack Hinuri!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Robert Twigg and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
DAvis circles away from the clinch attempt.
DAvis will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Hinuri rushes DAvis and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Hinuri landing knees to the body.
DAvis tries to pull guard but Hinuri won't allow it.
DAvis avoiding damage as Hinuri throws knees to the body.
DAvis drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Hinuri jumps guard and drags DAvis to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Hinuri keeping moving, preventing DAvis from controlling successfully.
DAvis throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
DAvis trying to control but Hinuri is working from the bottom.

Hinuri has his foot on DAvis's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. DAvis works his way back into a safe position though.
DAvis wants to control from the top but Hinuri keeps moving.
DAvis has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Hinuri is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Hinuri looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

DAvis controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
DAvis with a flurry of punches that miss.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
DAvis content to stall in guard here.

Hinuri is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and DAvis defends well.
Hinuri looking to hit a scissor sweep but DAvis is one step ahead there.
DAvis slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

DAvis pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hinuri is keeping the position for now.

Hinuri has his foot on DAvis's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. DAvis works his way back into a safe position though.

Hinuri avoiding damage under a succession of punches from DAvis.

DAvis is looking for a kimura here.
DAvis content to control rather than advance.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Hinuri is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but DAvis pulls his head out easily.

DAvis is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Hinuri makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hinuri.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Hinuri shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. DAvis defends it nicely.

DAvis is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
DAvis tries to pull guard but Hinuri holds him up against the cage and eventually DAvis drops back down to his feet.
Hinuri tries to stall but DAvis uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Hinuri misses with a knee to the head.
Hinuri looking to throw knees to the head but DAvis is blocking nicely.
Hinuri landing some nice looking knees to the body.
DAvis has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Hinuri avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

The referee is keeping an eye on Hinuri - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
DAvis tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Hinuri gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Hinuri wants to take a breather but DAvis is having none of it.

Hinuri is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so DAvis is just riding it out for now. Hinuri eventually gives up the hold.

Hinuri is looking for a kimura but DAvis is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hinuri to get the leverage.
Hinuri is breathing heavily.

Hinuri is sneakily working for an arm triangle but DAvis sees it coming and defends easily.
Hinuri looks to land a strike but DAvis avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

Hinuri trying to control but DAvis is working from the bottom.
DAvis looking for a sweep. Not yet DAvis, not yet.
Hinuri looking to pass the guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
DAvis avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Hinuri throws a sloppy head kick and DAvis moves out of range easily.
Hinuri tries to clinch up.
DAvis shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Hinuri counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Hinuri is sneakily working for an arm triangle but DAvis sees it coming and defends easily.
DAvis moves into full guard.

Hinuri is looking to advance position but DAvis has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Hinuri tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Hinuri is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
DAvis content just to control the position here.
Hinuri trying desperately to get to his feet.
Hinuri can't escape the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
DAvis tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Hinuri tries to reverse the position but DAvis maintains control.
DAvis can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hinuri is looking to escape.
DAvis is really struggling to control Hinuri but he's trying to hold on to the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Hinuri showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! DAvis's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

and Hinuri counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in DAvis's guard now.

DAvis seems keen to control Hinuri's posture.
DAvis wants to sweep but no luck.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as DAvis holds on and takes a little breather.
Hinuri loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Hinuri drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and DAvis dives on top into guard.

Hinuri throws his legs up looking for a submission but DAvis uses it to pass to side control.
Hinuri takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Hinuri defending against the ground and pound.
DAvis tries to advance to mount but Hinuri denies him.
Hinuri tries to improve position but can't.
Hinuri looking for a sweep but DAvis has passed into full mount! Oh no!
DAvis takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Hinuri tries to improve his position but instead DAvis has taken his back!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Hinuri fending off the submission attempt from DAvis.
Hinuri trying to control the hands but DAvis breaks the grip.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
DAvis trying to control momentarily.

Hinuri defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of DAvis's arms.

DAvis has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Hinuri! Can he survive? No! He's out! DAvis gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:05 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Miles DAvis!
