Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Shepherd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dean Reed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dean Reed!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, George Francis and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reed fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Reed lands a right hook to the body.
Shepherd is breathing heavily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Reed.
Reed is putting a hurting on Shepherd here, landing some big shots from side control.

Reed thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Reed wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Shepherd, who protects the arm well.

Reed decides to stand back up. Reed steps back and let's Shepherd get back to his feet.

Reed is nestled in close to Shepherd, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Shepherd is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Reed pulls his head out easily.

Reed drops back looking for a leg! Shepherd is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Shepherd manages to kick Reed off! Reed jumps back into Shepherd's guard.

Shepherd has a hand on Reed's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Reed takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Reed wants to finish this one by submission but Shepherd is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Reed.
The referee warns Shepherd that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Reed can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Shepherd is looking to escape.
Reed has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Shepherd tries to reverse the position but Reed maintains control.
Shepherd gets back to half guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Reed slips a nice elbow through Shepherd's hands, connecting with Shepherd's forehead.
Reed trying to control the action but Shepherd is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dean Reed dominated that round.

Reed fails to land the takedown.
Reed tries to score a power double leg takedown but Shepherd sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Reed somewhat.
Shepherd avoids the body shot from Reed.

John Shepherd has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dean Reed.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Reed is trying to control. Shepherd wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Reed looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Shepherd with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Shepherd tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Reed wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Shepherd takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Reed lands a decent elbow from side control.

Reed has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Shepherd is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Reed yanks on the arm and Shepherd is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Reed.
