PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Max Payne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Castle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Payne's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, RATM - Killing In The Name Of. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Max Payne!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Max Castle!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Payne looks to land a left hand but Castle moved out of range nicely.
Payne throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Castle fails in his attempt to clinch.

Payne clinches up with Castle and pushes him back against the cage.
Payne wants to get back to striking at distance but Castle won't allow it.

Castle has hold of one of Payne's legs. Payne is fighting the takedown attempt but Castle gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Payne is wriggling around but Castle manages to pass to half guard.
Castle tries to pass the half guard into mount. Payne knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Castle seems to be working for a kimura but Payne defends the submission attempt.
Castle stops Payne from getting back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Payne won't allow Castle to pass to mount.
Castle prevents Payne from improving his position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Payne is looking to clinch but Castle is avoiding it.
A jab from Castle finds it's way through Payne's defenses.


It looks like Max Payne has been cut.
Payne misses with a straight left.

Castle darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Castle in particular looking to stall.
Castle throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Castle lands a nice short elbow.
Payne knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Castle on the ground.
Castle thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Payne's head.

Castle thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Castle is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Payne is staying active underneath Castle, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Castle wants to work for an arm triangle but Payne is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

and Castle counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Payne falls off balance throwing a combination
and Castle counters with a left and a right that stings Payne.

Castle fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Payne, pushing him back against the cage.
Payne is trying to force a seperation but Castle has the dominant position.

Castle pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Castle shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Payne napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Payne works his foot free and advances to mount.
Castle is looking to improve his position but Payne isn't that keen on the idea.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Payne landing strikes from the mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Payne tries to control but Castle wriggling away.
Castle is looking to improve his position but Payne isn't that keen on the idea.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Max Payne just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Castle delivers a nice body kick.
Payne fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Castle avoids it really well and circles away.
Castle paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Payne swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Payne displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Payne throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Castle's waist but Castle gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Payne off to one side.
Castle is looking to clinch but Payne is avoiding it.
Horrible takedown by Castle or perhaps it was just good defense by Payne which made him look bad.

Castle forces Payne back against the cage and clinches.

Castle's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Payne tries to clinch but Castle is having none of it.
Castle misses with a head kick.
A head kick misses from Payne.
Payne lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Castle circles away quickly and effectively.
Payne tries for a takedown but Castle circles away easily
and Castle counters with a left and a right that stings Payne.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Max Payne. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Payne stuffs the takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Max Payne dominated that second round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Castle throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Payne.
Payne defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Castle.
Castle tries for a takedown but Payne sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Castle throws a right and a left that both miss.
Castle leaves Payne with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Payne.

Payne closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Payne lands in his opponent's guard.
Payne wants to control from the top but Castle keeps moving.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Castle working for a triangle but Payne defends it easily.
Payne stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Castle swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Payne stops Castle from standing up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Castle keeping moving, preventing Payne from controlling successfully.
Payne throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Castle works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Payne trying to control the position from guard on top but Castle is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Payne is looking to advance position but Castle has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Castle lands a big shot there that rocks Payne but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Payne tries to buck Castle off but he can't manage it.
Payne is trying to escape the mount.

Payne wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Castle wants to control the pace but Payne is squirming around nicely.
Castle punishing his opponent with strikes.

Castle is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Payne to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Payne shrugs it off.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Castle connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Castle throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Castle lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Castle cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Castle has control of Payne's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Payne regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Max Castle comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Castle has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
