PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Willie Mandela (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Brent (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Mandela might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Iron Maiden - "Ghengis Khan". We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Willie Mandela!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Dave Brent!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, James Atkins and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mandela moves in looking to clinch but Brent pushes him off.
A looping hook to the body misses from Brent. Mandela does a little dance to reset his feet.
Willie Mandela seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mandela looks for a takedown but Brent sprawls well.

Mandela sitting in guard here, content to control.
Mandela wants to pass the guard but Brent is keeping the position.
Brent really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mandela. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Brent is trying to keep Mandela in close.
Mandela trying to control but Brent is working from the bottom.
Mandela looking to sit in guard and control but Brent gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Brent avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Brent preventing the sweep.
Brent wants to control from the top but Mandela keeps moving.
Brent would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Mandela tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Mandela throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Brent escapes and throws Mandela's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Mandela tries to improve position but can't.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Mandela shoots in but Brent avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Mandela is breathing heavily.

Mandela tries to keep at a distance but Brent has taken the fight into the clinch.

Brent jumps into guard, dragging Mandela to the mat.
Mandela passes Brent's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Mandela wants to take a breather but Brent is having none of it.
Mandela passes into side control, despite Brent's attempt to control the position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Brent tries to buck Mandela off but Mandela is having none of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Mandela tries for a kimura but Brent is defending well.
Brent wants to get back to his feet.

Mandela wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Brent, who protects the arm well.
Mandela tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Brent is looking to reverse the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Mandela working away.

Mandela tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mandela has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Brent sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brent trying to hold on to Mandela's head to control him but Mandela postures up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Mandela is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Willie Mandela dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Mandela shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Brent keeping moving, preventing Mandela from controlling successfully.
Mandela prevents Brent from getting back to his feet.
Mandela wants to control from the top but Brent keeps moving.
Mandela preventing the sweep.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Brent is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Brent is breathing heavily.
Brent is looking to control Mandela's arms but Mandela gets an underhook and turns him. Now Brent has his back to the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Brent just leaning against Mandela, taking a breather.
Mandela is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Brent is keeping busy.
Mandela drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Brent lands an elbow that stopped Mandela in his tracks for a moment.
The referee is keeping an eye on Brent - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Brent changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Mandela fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Mandela shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Brent's guard.

Mandela forces his way into half guard.
Brent is trying to stand.
Mandela is trying to control the action in half guard but Brent is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Mandela trying to mount his opponent but Brent defends it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Brent has his takedown stuffed

and Mandela counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Brent!

Mandela working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Brent turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Mandela off and cradles Brent's limp body as Mandela celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Willie Mandela!
