Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Katana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rusty Starks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Katana comes into the arena with Baby got back blaring out of the sound system. Starks has chosen Deliverance as his entrance music. Rusty Starks will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Katana throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Starks was covering up waiting for the punch and Katana finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Katana might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Starks looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Katana puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Starks wants to improve his position but Katana is controlling well.

Starks looking to hit a scissor sweep but Katana is one step ahead there.

Starks has his foot on Katana's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Katana works his way back into a safe position though.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Starks escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Katana gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Katana tries to stand but Starks is controlling from the bottom.
Starks is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Starks looking for a guillotine here but Katana defends easily.

Starks steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Katana.

Katana looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

and Katana counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Starks moves away from the strike by Katana.
Katana misses with an uppercut. Starks saw that one coming.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Starks uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Katana.

Katana throws a jab when Starks was well out of range.
Katana misses with an uppercut.

and Katana counters with a straight right hand.
Katana throws out a loose jab but Starks uses good head movement to avoid it.
Starks gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Katana cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Starks doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Katana counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
James Katana has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rusty Starks.
A combination from Katana does no damage.
Starks avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Starks misses with a takedown attempt
and Katana counters with a nice uppercut.

Katana slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Starks slips a jab from Katana.
Starks keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Katana.
A bone on bone clash there as Katana blocks the leg kick.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Katana loads up on a big right hand but Starks slips the punch.
Katana throws the left hand but Starks avoids the punch easily.
Starks throws a wild body kick that Katana sees coming a mile off.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Starks throws a sloppy head kick and Katana moves out of range easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Katana dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

and Katana counters with a nice uppercut.

enabling Katana to counter with a crisp jab.

and Katana connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
James Katana has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rusty Starks.

Starks looking to hit a scissor sweep but Katana is one step ahead there.

Starks looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Katana has picked Starks up and slammed him! Starks can't keep hold of the triangle and Katana manages to pass to side control!
Starks looks to move to half guard but instead Katana has passed into mount! Damn!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Starks is desperately trying to improve his position but Katana has a good base and remains in mount.
Katana controlling his opponent.
Starks keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Katana trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Starks is trying desperately to improve position.

Katana is trying to stand up but he's being controlled by his opponent.
Starks is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Katana wants to get back to his feet but Starks is holding on tight.
Starks is trying to escape the mount.
Katana tries to control but Starks wriggling away.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Starks flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Katana controlling the position easily from mount.

And that's the end of the fight!
James Katana showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Katana has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
