PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Randolph Duke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Abe Jefferson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Duke's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Pink Floyd - Money. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Abe Jefferson!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Lou da Vinci and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Duke has closed the distance and engaged Jefferson in a clinch.
Duke gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Jefferson.
Jefferson is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Duke unloads a knee to the mid-section.

Duke pulls guard effortlessly.
Duke being controlled here, momentarily.

Duke looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Jefferson passes into side control.
Jefferson is looking to take a break and control but Duke is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Duke is trying to buck Jefferson off.

Jefferson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Duke keeps working.

Duke manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Jefferson wants to get back to full guard.

Duke is working for a submission of some sort.
Jefferson tries to roll over but Duke keeps him under control.

Duke looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Duke has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Duke scoring with strikes but Jefferson is staying in there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Jefferson tries to hold on but Duke pushes him away.

Duke has control of Jefferson's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Jefferson regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Duke escapes and gets back to his feet.
Jefferson throws a one two combo.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Duke tries to clinch up.

Jefferson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Duke to the mat! Duke manages to get full guard.
Duke is breathing heavily.
Jefferson is working Duke over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Jefferson thows a big elbow that misses.

Jefferson slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Jefferson wants to control but Duke is keeping him busy.
Duke tries to buck Jefferson off but Jefferson is having none of it.
Jefferson lands some shots froms side control.
The referee asks Jefferson politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Jefferson prefers to stall for the moment though.
Jefferson lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Duke is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Jefferson asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Jefferson looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Jefferson tries for a kimura but Duke is defending well.
Duke is looking to reverse the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Duke tries to escape but Jefferson is in control.
Duke manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Duke tries to pass the half guard into mount. Jefferson knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Jefferson looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Jefferson is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Duke pulls his head out easily.
Jefferson throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Abe Jefferson dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Duke gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Jefferson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Duke has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Jefferson should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Duke has tightened it up now! Jefferson should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Randolph Duke!
