PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Brian Harvey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Quid (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Harvey's entrance music is E-17 "Deep". A fine choice. Quid comes into a darkened arena with his song building. The Wicker Man kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harvey throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Harvey misses with a hook. Quid ducked under it nicely.
Harvey throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Quid uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Harvey.
Quid thows a left - swing and a miss!
Harvey misses with a body shot.
A slow jab from Harvey misses its intended target.
Harvey steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Quid. That one must have hurt.

Harvey closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Quid did well to prevent Harvey getting side control.
Harvey throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Quid is refusing to be controlled, as Harvey sits in half guard.

Harvey prevents Quid from standing back up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Quid is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Harvey tries to bum rush Quid with a series of wild strikes but Quid uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Harvey swings for the body but Quid moves out of range.
An inside leg kick from Quid misses.
Nice defenses there by Quid.
Harvey throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Harvey lands a nice shot that snaps Quid's head back.
Quid has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Harvey finds it's way round the side to connect with Quid's head.
Harvey tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Quid was well out of range. Poor timing from Harvey.
Harvey fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Quid manages to avoid it.
Quid throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Harvey digs a good hook to Quid's body.

Harvey drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Quid tries to bench press Harvey off him but Harvey keeps the position.
Quid stops Harvey from passing to mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Harvey cracks Quid with a big elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Quid parries the strikes from Harvey easily there. Harvey is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Quid to escape.
Harvey lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Quid down.
Harvey wants to control but Quid is keeping him busy.
Quid takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Harvey prevents Quid from escaping the position.

Quid is trying to get back to half guard.
Harvey misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Harvey wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Quid, who protects the arm well.
Harvey in side control, throwing shots but Quid defends.
Quid is trying to escape the position but Harvey is controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brian Harvey dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Quid slips a jab from Harvey.
Quid stuns Harvey with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Harvey throws a looping overhand right but Quid ducks down to avoid it.

Harvey will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Quid takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Harvey lands a jab-cross combination.
Quid uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Harvey.
Harvey takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
A shot to de liver by Harvey. Beautiful body shot.
Quid defending well as Harvey loads up on a big left hand.
Harvey misses with an uppercut.

Harvey is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Quid slips a straight right by Harvey.
Quid avoids a punch combination nicely.
Harvey throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Quid counters with a low kick, right behind Harvey 's knee.
Harvey stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Quid.
Harvey works over Quid's head and body with a nice combination.

Quid connects with a nice looking jab.
Quid scores with a kick to the body.

Harvey feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Harvey wants to control from the top but Quid keeps moving.
Quid is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

That was a close second round but I would say that Brian Harvey will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Quid connects with the punch.
Quid throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Harvey sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Quid chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Harvey scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Harvey bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Harvey misses the jab.
Quid moves out of range of the strikes.
Quid fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Harvey looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
A head kick misses from Quid.
Harvey misses with an uppercut.
Harvey fails with the takedown.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Quid thows a body shot but no joy.
Harvey pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Quid moves into range and clinches up with Harvey.

Nice body punch from Quid.
Harvey is looking to control Quid's arms but Quid gets an underhook and turns him. Now Harvey has his back to the cage.
Quid pushes Harvey back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Quid goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Still in the clinch, Quid scores with a nice short uppercut.

Harvey jumps guard.
Harvey looking for a sweep. Not yet Harvey, not yet.
Quid wants to get up but he can't break Harvey's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Quid prevents Harvey from improving his position.

Harvey is looking to get back to full guard here but Quid has managed to pass to side control instead.
Harvey is in all sorts of trouble here.

Harvey tries to hold on but Quid pushes him away.

Harvey is controlling an arm, preventing Quid from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

Harvey wants to control but Quid is having none of it.
Quid manages to capitalize on a mistake by Harvey to take his back!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Quid stands up and beckons Harvey to join him on the feet.
Brian Harvey is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

and Quid counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Harvey will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Harvey lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Quid circles away quickly and effectively.
Johnny Quid has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Harvey tries for a takedown but Quid sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Quid uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Harvey.
Harvey swings for the body but Quid moves out of range.
Harvey throws a sloppy body shot
and Quid counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.

And that's the end of the fight!
Johnny Quid comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Harvey has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
