PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Glenardo Gonzalez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Cavalera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gonzalez's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Delinquent habits-Return Of The Tres . These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Glenardo Gonzalez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Max Cavalera!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Shigeki Fujiwara and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gonzalez shoots in for a double leg but Cavalera sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Cavalera misses with a takedown
and Gonzalez finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Cavalera throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Gonzalez misses with a jab, cross combination.
Gonzalez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Gonzalez misses with a takedown

and Cavalera decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Gonzalez's guard.

Gonzalez is working an open guard so Cavalera takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Cavalera tries to clinch but Gonzalez moves out of range.

Cavalera looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cavalera looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Cavalera tries to stand but can't do so whilst Gonzalez controls his leg.
Still in half guard, Cavalera seems content to control.
Nice strikes from Cavalera there.
Cavalera not doing much here.
Cavalera passes the guard and advances to mount!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
The referee warns Gonzalez that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gonzalez tries to lock up and control but Cavalera gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Cavalera misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Cavalera lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Gonzalez hang on?

Gonzalez tries to hold on but Cavalera pushes him away.
Cavalera throwing strikes here but Gonzalez is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Cavalera stands up from mount. Strange move.
Gonzalez is breathing heavily.

Gonzalez drives through with a takedown into guard.
Cavalera has Gonzalez pulled in close to control his posture.

Cavalera has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gonzalez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Cavalera pushes Gonzalez off and scrambles back to his feet.
Gonzalez pushes Cavalera away with a front kick.
Cavalera fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Gonzalez looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Cavalera throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Gonzalez was covering up waiting for the punch and Cavalera finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cavalera is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Max Cavalera dominated that round.
That's time! Gonzalez's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Cavalera misses with a straight left.
Gonzalez throws a head kick that misses.

Cavalera drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Max Cavalera has got the better of the ground game so far.
Cavalera landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
An elbow from Cavalera crashes against the mat.

Cavalera decides to stand back up.
Gonzalez tries to bum rush Cavalera with a series of wild strikes but Cavalera uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Cavalera shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Cavalera showed some decent athleticism there.

Cavalera wants to stand up but Gonzalez has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Still in half guard, Cavalera seems content to control.

Well, if Cavalera is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Gonzalez is trying to stand up here but Cavalera is controlling him well.

Cavalera decides to stand and escape the position.

Cavalera shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Cavalera was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Gonzalez is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Cavalera cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Gonzalez is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Cavalera looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Max Cavalera showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Cavalera stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gonzalez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Cavalera in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Cavalera wants to control from the top but Gonzalez keeps moving.
Gonzalez controls Cavalera momentarily but Cavalera frees himself.

Cavalera stays in close to Gonzalez's body and controls the position.

Cavalera is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Cavalera throws a combination that misses
and Gonzalez counters with a left and a right that stings Cavalera.

Cavalera feints and as Gonzalez raises his hands in defense, Cavalera changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Cavalera stays in close to Gonzalez's body and controls the position.

Cavalera forces his way into half guard.
Cavalera slows the pace down in half guard.
Cavalera not landing any meaningful shots this time.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Cavalera is taking a breather. Gonzalez says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Max Cavalera comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Cavalera has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
