PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rusty Starks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Katana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Starks comes to the cage accompanied by Deliverance. Katana has chosen Baby got back as his entrance music. Rusty Starks is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Rusty Starks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, James Katana!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Daniel Bishop and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Starks needs to keep his hands up - Katana had a free shot at his head there.
Starks shoots for a takedown but Katana saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Starks will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Starks takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Katana lands a nice shot to the body.
Starks ducks under a wild hook from Katana.
Starks throws a chopping leg kick but Katana manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Katana's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Katana duly obliges.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Starks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rusty Starks. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Starks misses with a takedown attempt - Katana sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Starks shoots for a double leg takedown but Katana sprawls well. He's pushed Starks's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Starks fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Katana checks it well.

Starks shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Katana lands with a straight right. Starks didn't see that one coming.
Starks bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Katana throws a hook to the side of Starks's head but Starks sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Katana tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Starks takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Starks closes the distance and clinches up with Katana, looking for a takedown. Starks pushes Katana against the cage but Katana circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Starks closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Starks lands in his opponent's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Katana wants to stand and escape but Starks is having none of it.
Starks trying to control but Katana is working from the bottom.

Starks thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Starks will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Starks prevents Katana from getting back to his feet.
Starks pushes down on Katana's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Starks trying to control the action but Katana is working from the bottom.
Katana is trying to stand back up but Starks is controlling him
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Katana scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Starks steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Katana.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Katana dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Starks shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Katana pinned against the cage. Katana gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Katana lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Starks throws out a leg kick but Katana moves out of range and Starks only half commits.
Katana might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Starks shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Katana sprawls well. Katana wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Starks gets slowly back to his feet.

Starks slips under a jab from Katana.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Nice uppercut lands for Katana. That snapped Starks's head back.
Katana throws a hook to the side of Starks's head but Starks sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

A big right from Katana misses.
Katana jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Starks blocks a jab.
Starks looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Katana is fending him off so far but Starks persists. Nope, Katana circles away and we're back to standing.
Katana throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Starks on the side of the head.
Starks gets cracked there but stands up to it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Starks fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Katana throws out a loose jab but Starks uses good head movement to avoid it.
A decent looking cross lands there for Katana.
Nice uppercut lands for Katana. That snapped Starks's head back.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Katana slaps away a takedown attempt from Starks, before circling back to the center of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Katana showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Starks shoots in for a takedown but Katana shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
The fighters circle momentarily. Katana darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Starks takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Rusty Starks seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Katana throws a shot from downtown. Starks moves away and avoids it.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Katana lands a right hook to the body.
Katana throws a series of strikes that have Starks backpedaling.
Katana looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Katana checks the leg kick.

Katana throws an overhand right that lands on Starks's shoulder, as Starks tries to avoid the shot.
A slow jab from Katana misses its intended target.
Rusty Starks has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Katana looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Starks!

Starks keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
James Katana is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Katana wants to get back to his feet but Starks is holding on tight.

James Katana comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Katana winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
