The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matas throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Matas doesn't manage to clinch there - King circles away.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Matas looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
King avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Matas will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
King tries to clinch

and Matas holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Matas has King pressed against the cage.

Matas breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

King tries to land a knee to the head but Matas blocks with his arms.
King throws a knee to the head but misses.
King looking to throw knees to the head but Matas is blocking nicely.
Matas scores with a knee to the head.


It looks like Kerry King has been cut.

Matas has King pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Matas pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending King tumbling to the mat - Matas dives into King's guard.
King keeping moving, preventing Matas from controlling successfully.

Matas wants to stand and escape but instead King has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

and King holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Matas manages to break the clinch.
Matas closes this distance looking for a takedown but King circles away.
Horrible takedown by Matas or perhaps it was just good defense by King which made him look bad.
Matas avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Matas tries to close the distance and clinch but King swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

King forces Matas back against the cage and clinches.

Matas breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Matas closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

It looks like Matas is going to stand back up.
King is refusing to be controlled, as Matas sits in half guard.

King kicks Matas off and gets back to his feet.

King tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Matas counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
King misses with a knee strike.
Matas has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. King avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Matas drops down looking for an ankle pick but King pulls his leg out and moves away.

King clinches up against the cage.

King lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!


It looks like Petr Matas has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Kerry King will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Matas tries to pull guard but King holds him up against the cage and eventually Matas drops back down to his feet.

King gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Matas.
King has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Matas kicks King off and gets to his feet.
Matas fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Matas lands a big head kick that sends King to the canvas! Matas follows up with strikes from the mount that forces the ref to step in and stop the fight!
