PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ripp Arrm (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Merengue (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Merengue has chosen Flood of Red - Dont Sleep, Swim. as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ripp Arrm!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mike Merengue!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Thiago Cunha and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Merengue stuffs the takedown attempt from Arrm. Arrm gets slowly back to his feet.
Arrm tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Arrm darts in and clinches Merengue up against the cage.
Arrm prevents Merengue from breaking the clinch.
Merengue tries to land a knee to the head but Arrm blocks with his arms.

Arrm has Merengue pressed against the cage, preventing Merengue from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Merengue throws a looping overhand right but Arrm ducks down to avoid it.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Arrm is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Arrm gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Arrm gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Arrm apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Ripp Arrm seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mike Merengue is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Arrm digs a right hand into Merengue's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Merengue's gas tank.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Arrm feints and then cracks Merengue's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Merengue down.

Arrm has hold of Merengue's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Merengue manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Arrm throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Merengue's waist but Merengue gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Arrm off to one side.
