PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tyson Woolard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tyson Woolard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mark Penn!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Penn tries to close the distance and clinch up but Woolard swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Woolard is looking to clinch.
Woolard throws a right hand that Penn ducks under and follows up with a left that Penn also avoids with ease.
Mark Penn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Woolard jabs at Penn's body.

Woolard clinches with his opponent.
A right handed body shot lands from Penn.
Penn missing with knees to the body.
Woolard is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Penn gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Penn lands a takedown into guard.

Penn drops back looking for a leg! Woolard is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Woolard manages to kick Penn off! Penn jumps back into Woolard's guard.

Woolard has his foot on Penn's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Penn works his way back into a safe position though.
Woolard is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Woolard trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Penn's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Penn with a flurry of punches that miss.

Penn thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Penn scoring with some ground and pound.
Penn postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Woolard is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Penn is controlling him.
Penn postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Woolard preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Penn throwing strikes but missing.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Penn blocks a head kick by Woolard.
Penn tries to clinch but Woolard moves away
and Woolard connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Woolard throws a series of punches but Penn moves out of range.
Woolard is breathing heavily.
Penn gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Woolard counters with a one-two to the body.

Penn shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Woolard manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Penn passes Woolard's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Woolard wants to control but Penn is keeping busy.

Penn is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Woolard defends it well.
Penn throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Penn is looking for a kimura but Woolard is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Penn to get the leverage.
Woolard regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Penn.

Penn thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Woolard manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Woolard avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
No luck for Penn with that takedown attempt.
Tyson Woolard has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Penn.

Woolard has closed the distance and engaged Penn in a clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Woolard blocks an elbow strike from Penn.
Penn scores with a knee to the head.

Woolard wants the takedown. Penn is fighting it off but Woolard persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Penn's guard against the cage.

Woolard has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Penn to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Woolard is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Penn pulls down on the head and he's put Woolard to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Mark Penn!
