Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.

The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Lou da Vinci and Reed Andrews.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mercuriy shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Cates is trying to defend but Mercuriy finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Mercuriy is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Mercuriy wants to work for an arm triangle but Cates is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Cates stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Cates wants it to stay on the feet.

Cates gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Mercuriy to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Mercuriy has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cates can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Cates seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Cates will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cates thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Cates looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mercuriy with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Cates slips a nice elbow through Mercuriy's hands, connecting with Mercuriy's forehead.

and Mercuriy counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Cates's guard now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mercuriy drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Cates dives on top into guard.

Mercuriy looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Cates is defending well. Mercuriy quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Cates has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Mercuriy celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
