PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Grigoriy Rasputin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gideon Jura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Sosuke Kotani and Hirohito Nitta.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jura tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rasputin paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Jura is looking to clinch.
Jura throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rasputin's waist but Rasputin gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jura off to one side.
Rasputin fakes the leg kick and cracks Jura in the body.
Jura looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Jura throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rasputin's waist but Rasputin gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jura off to one side.
Grigoriy Rasputin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gideon Jura.

Rasputin forces Jura back against the cage and clinches.
Jura blocks the elbow strike.

Rasputin lands a big knee from the Thai clinch and Jura goes down hard! The ref takes a good look at him but he's still defending himself. Rasputin in side control.

Jura is rocked!

It looks like Gideon Jura has been cut.
Jura looks gassed!

Rasputin tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Rasputin has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Rasputin is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Jura knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Jura should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Rasputin is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Jura's shoulder. That is not cool.
Rasputin laying and praying for a moment but Jura takes advantage and regains half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rasputin passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Jura!
Rasputin trying to control but Jura is having none of it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jura is wriggling around trying to escape.

Rasputin jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Jura manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Rasputin wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Jura, who protects the arm well.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Rasputin swings around for an armbar but Jura sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Rasputin's guard.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Jura forces his way into half guard.
Jura working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Jura is keen to just control but Rasputin is a slippery customer.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Rasputin's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Rasputin closes the distance and pushes Jura back into the cage.
Rasputin missing with knees to the body.
Rasputin has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Jura is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Knees in the clinch landing for Rasputin.
Rasputin prevents a takedown attempt there.
Rasputin softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Rasputin misses with a knee to the head.
Jura misses with the head strike.
Jura wants a takedown but no success here.
Jura goes for a takedown attempt but Rasputin pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

A short body shot lands from Rasputin as the two fighters clinch.

Rasputin takes a little break here. Jura wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Rasputin seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Jura for as long as he can get away with.

Rasputin trying to control but he's not successful this time.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Rasputin wants to control the pace but Jura is squirming around nicely.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Grigoriy Rasputin just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Rasputin doesn't manage to clinch there - Jura circles away.

Rasputin wants to pass the guard but Jura is keeping the position.

Rasputin is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jura is just riding it out for now. Rasputin eventually gives up the hold.

Rasputin has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Jura is in all sorts of trouble here.

Rasputin looking for a guillotine from mount but Jura is having none of it.

Rasputin has hold of Jura's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Jura manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Rasputin can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Jura is looking to escape.

Rasputin jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Jura is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Jura and Rasputin has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Gideon Jura has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Grigoriy Rasputin is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rasputin is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Jura is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Well Rasputin has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
