Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ainars Gailis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Tavaras (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jon Tavaras has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Ainars Gailis's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ainars Gailis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jon Tavaras!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Konstantin Menshow and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tavaras changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gailis tries to avoid it but Tavaras manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gailis to the ground. Gailis escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Gailis stuffs the takedown.
Tavaras fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Ainars Gailis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon Tavaras.
Gailis tests Tavaras's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Gailis looks to land a combination but Tavaras avoids it well.
Tavaras shoots in looking for a takedown. Gailis tries to sprawl out of it but Tavaras keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gailis manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Tavaras walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Tavaras shoots for a double leg takedown but Gailis sprawls well. He's pushed Tavaras's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Tavaras closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Gailis to the mat! Gailis manages to get full guard.

Tavaras is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Gailis is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gailis pushes Tavaras off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gailis misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Tavaras fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Gailis avoids it really well and circles away.
Gailis misses with a wild combination.
Gailis lands a head shot.
Gailis throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Tavaras misses with a takedown attempt - Gailis sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Gailis misses with a series of wild punches.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Gailis, as that shot connected.
Gailis lands a two punch combo.


It looks like Jon Tavaras has been cut.
Tavaras looks gassed!
Tavaras blocks the body kick.
Gailis is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Tavaras shoots in for a takedown but Gailis shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Tavaras avoids a punch combination nicely.
Tavaras closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Gailis throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Gailis swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Tavaras looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Gailis!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gailis is trying desperately to improve position.

Tavaras has hold of Gailis's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Gailis manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Gailis knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Tavaras on the ground.

Tavaras is working for a guillotine from mount but Gailis frees his head quite easily.

Gailis tries to lock up and control but Tavaras gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Gailis looks out of his depth in this position - he's holding on tight.

Tavaras goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Gailis is on top in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gailis has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Tavaras is proving hard to escape from.

Tavaras is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Gailis will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Gailis gets to his feet. Tavaras looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Ainars Gailis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gailis cracks Tavaras with a right hand to the side of the head.
Gailis is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Gailis scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Gailis clobbers Tavaras with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Gailis uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Tavaras has time to react.
A clash of legs there as Tavaras blocks the low kick.
Gailis lands with a straight right. Tavaras didn't see that one coming.
Gailis scores to the head and body with a nice combination!


Tavaras is rocked!
Tavaras looks up at the clock. Bad move! Gailis lands a right hand from hell, dropping Tavaras. Gailis pounces and finishes the fight with a flurry of punches and elbows.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ainars Gailis!
