Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ivan Kovalev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edward Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mendez is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Big Pun-Dream Shatterer. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Edward Mendez!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kovalev decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Kovalev is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Mendez doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kovalev.

Kovalev drops back looking for a leg! Mendez is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mendez manages to kick Kovalev off! Kovalev jumps back into Mendez's guard.

Kovalev thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
