The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
LIDDELL shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mitchell but Mitchell pushes him off and we're back to square one.
LIDDELL shoots for a takedown but Mitchell saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Mitchell shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Mitchell showed some decent athleticism there.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now LIDDELL is on top in guard.
Mitchell is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Mitchell had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. LIDDELL defends it easily.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Mitchell avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Mitchell wants to sweep but no luck.
LIDDELL wants to pass the guard but Mitchell is keeping the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Mitchell looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Mitchell is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
LIDDELL wants to control but Mitchell is keeping busy.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Mitchell stays in close to LIDDELL's body and controls the position.
Mitchell passes into half guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

LIDDELL wants to improve his position but Mitchell is controlling well.
Mitchell takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
LIDDELL takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Russ Mitchell just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
LIDDELL works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Mitchell throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. LIDDELL was covering up waiting for the punch and Mitchell finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Mitchell thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
