Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Michael Michaels (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim KATA (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jim KATA has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Michael Michaels's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Michael Michaels!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jim KATA!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

KATA shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Michaels's guard.
KATA stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Michaels swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Michaels escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. KATA gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
KATA is working Michaels over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
KATA postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Michaels avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Michaels tries to land a sweep but no joy.
KATA stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Michaels swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Michaels seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
KATA trying to control the position from guard on top but Michaels is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
KATA stands and throws Michaels's legs to the side, diving into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.

KATA tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no KATA has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Michaels prevents KATA from moving into mount.
Michaels sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Michaels is staying active underneath KATA, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Michaels wants to improve his position but KATA is controlling well.
KATA is looking to advance position but Michaels won't allow it.
KATA wants to lay and pray for a moment but Michaels keeps working.
Michaels wants to control but KATA is keeping busy.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
KATA shoots in for a double leg but Michaels sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
KATA looks gassed!

Michaels closes the distance and clinches.
KATA looking for a takedown.
Michaels gets underhooks to prevent KATA's takedown attempt.
Michael Michaels has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jim KATA.
KATA tries to throw a body punch but Michaels avoids it by throwing KATA back against the cage.
KATA tries to pull guard but Michaels holds him up against the cage and eventually KATA drops back down to his feet.
KATA goes for a takedown in the clinch but Michaels prevents it.

Michaels breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Michaels ducks down and throws a hook to the body but KATA moves away.
Michaels digs a good hook to KATA's body.

Michaels pushes KATA up against the cage in a clinch.
KATA looking for a takedown.
KATA tries for a takedown but Michaels manages to get underhooks.
KATA tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Michaels smiles and moves away.
Michaels is looking to clinch but KATA is avoiding it.
KATA keeps the fight on the outside.
KATA shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Michaels pinned against the cage. Michaels gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
KATA fails to land the takedown.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
KATA shoots in for a takedown but Michaels shows good takedown defense.

Michaels feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Michaels wants to control from the top but KATA keeps moving.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

KATA shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Michaels's guard.

Michaels escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. KATA gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Michaels lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for KATA!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Michaels cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Michaels lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
KATA is trying to escape the mount.
Michaels landing strikes from the mount and KATA is in trouble!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Michaels in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.


KATA is rocked!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

KATA is still in real trouble! Can Michaels finish him?
Michaels is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. KATA can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Michaels tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Michaels scores with a couple of good head shots there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Michael Michaels dominated that round.

KATA takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Michaels shakes his hands by his side, trying to relax. KATA takes his eyes off the ball for a moment - Michaels sees the opportunity and cracks him with a massive hook! KATA bends double and collapses on top of himself - he's out! The crowd are going absolutely nuts! Wow, what a knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:08 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Michael Michaels!
