Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hiro Shiima (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cain Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Hiro Shiima!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Cain Velasquez!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Thiago Cunha and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Velasquez tries to close the distance and clinch up but Shiima swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Velasquez drives through and clinches with Shiima against the cage.
Velasquez scores a nice knee to the body.
Shiima is breathing heavily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Velasquez gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Velasquez seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Shiima pushes Velasquez off looking to stand but Velasquez dives back in and keeps control.

Let's hope that Velasquez has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Despite being in the dominant position, Cain Velasquez just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Shiima is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Cain Velasquez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Velasquez closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Velasquez lands in his opponent's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Shiima is trying hard to land a takedown here. Velasquez sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Shiima is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Velasquez is aware though and is defending well.

Velasquez is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Shiima utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Velasquez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Shiima. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Shiima had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Velasquez defends it easily.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Shiima not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Shiima has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Velasquez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Velasquez. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Shiima escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Velasquez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Shiima wants to sweep but no luck.
Shiima is working hard here to advance position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Cain Velasquez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Shiima wants to control but Velasquez is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Velasquez is looking to take a break and control but Shiima is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Well Velasquez has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
