PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ulf Minutsak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dario Nitiguchi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ulf Minutsak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dario Nitiguchi!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Fedor Mirinova and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Minutsak throws a right hand that Nitiguchi ducks under and follows up with a left that Nitiguchi also avoids with ease.
Minutsak misses with a double jab.
Minutsak fails to land with a series of punches.
Minutsak lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Nitiguchi backs up against the cage.

Nitiguchi feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Minutsak manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Nitiguchi manages to get himself to full guard.
Nitiguchi pulls Minutsak in to control the position.

Minutsak stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nitiguchi swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Minutsak throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Minutsak shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Nitiguchi keeps the fight on the outside.

Nitiguchi gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Minutsak has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Nitiguchi regains guard immediately.
Nitiguchi wants to sweep here but Minutsak controlling him for the moment.

Nitiguchi pushes Minutsak off and scrambles back to his feet.

Both fighters circling a little - Nitiguchi finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

Minutsak has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Nitiguchi is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

The referee calls for Nitiguchi to work.

Minutsak is looking to stand up but Nitiguchi isn't so interested in that idea.

Minutsak wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Nitiguchi manages to pass to side control.

Nitiguchi is tying to control. Minutsak wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Nitiguchi misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Minutsak's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Minutsak is working to get back to half guard.
Minutsak is working hard here to advance position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Minutsak flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Minutsak can't escape the position.
Minutsak wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Nitiguchi.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Minutsak tries to hold on but Nitiguchi pushes him away.
Minutsak is looking to improve his position but Nitiguchi isn't that keen on the idea.

Minutsak bucks Nitiguchi off and manages to get back to his feet!

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ulf Minutsak. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Minutsak throws a good cross that connects.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Nitiguchi moves out of range as Minutsak throws a body kick.
Nitiguchi circles away from the clinch attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ulf Minutsak will probably get the nod.

Minutsak shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Minutsak was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Nitiguchi has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Nitiguchi is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Minutsak has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Nitiguchi has passed into side control.

Nitiguchi looks up at the clock and then as Minutsak takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Nitiguchi smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Nitiguchi looks up at the clock and then as Minutsak takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Nitiguchi smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Nitiguchi shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Minutsak as he jumps to the side.
Nitiguchi wants to land a leg kick but Minutsak is out of range.
Minutsak throws a head kick but Nitiguchi moves out of range.
Minutsak throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Minutsak shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
BOOM! Minutsak connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Nitiguchi is wriggling around trying to escape.
Minutsak pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Minutsak breaks from Nitiguchi's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Nitiguchi tries to hold on but Minutsak pushes him away.
Nitiguchi bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Nitiguchi slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Minutsak.

Minutsak looking to hit a scissor sweep but Nitiguchi is one step ahead there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ulf Minutsak dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Minutsak pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Nitiguchi takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Nitiguchi steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Minutsak.
Nitiguchi blocks a head kick by Minutsak.
Minutsak lunges at Nitiguchi with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Nitiguchi's hand.

Minutsak has Nitiguchi up against the cage in a clinch.
Nitiguchi is still on wobbly legs! Can Minutsak finish him?
Minutsak avoiding damage as Nitiguchi throws knees to the body.
Nitiguchi seems to have recovered his senses.
Nitiguchi tries to score a body lock takedown but Minutsak shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Minutsak.
Minutsak using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Nitiguchi has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Minutsak escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Minutsak throws a right and a left that both miss.

Minutsak has his feet on Nitiguchi's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

and Nitiguchi counters with a nice double leg into side control. Minutsak won't be happy with that.

Nitiguchi tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Nitiguchi has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Minutsak is trying to get back to half guard.

Minutsak throws Nitiguchi to one side and escapes!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Nitiguchi rushes Minutsak and presses him up against the cage.
Minutsak lands a left hand that snaps the head of Nitiguchi backwards.
Nitiguchi prevents a takedown attempt there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ulf Minutsak. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nitiguchi is pressed up against the cage. Minutsak has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Nitiguchi down to the mat. Nitiguchi avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Nitiguchi displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Minutsak throws out the jab.

Minutsak is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Minutsak is in a horrible position here. Nitiguchi smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Dario Nitiguchi has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Minutsak is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Dario Nitiguchi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Minutsak has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
