PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Matias Alderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mauri Perusjatka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alderson's entrance music is Dark moon High tide. A fine choice. Mauri Perusjatka told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Matias Alderson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mauri Perusjatka!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Ben Zyskovitsi and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perusjatka throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Alderson's waist but Alderson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Perusjatka off to one side.
Perusjatka shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Alderson defends it nicely.
Perusjatka fails with a takedown attempt.
Matias Alderson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mauri Perusjatka.
Perusjatka shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Alderson as he avoids it easily.

Alderson feints and as Perusjatka raises his hands in defense, Alderson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Matias Alderson just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Alderson darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

and Alderson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Alderson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Alderson decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Alderson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Perusjatka to the mat! Perusjatka manages to get full guard.

Alderson lands a big head kick that sends Perusjatka tumbling to the mat! Alderson takes a step backwards and waves Perusjatka back to his feet - he wants the finish!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Alderson seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Perusjatka for as long as he can get away with.
