The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oliveira tries to score a power double leg takedown but smirnoff sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Oliveira somewhat.

That was a close round but I would say that Henrique Oliveira will probably get the nod.

Horrible takedown by Oliveira or perhaps it was just good defense by smirnoff which made him look bad.

smirnoff shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Oliveira pinned against the cage. Oliveira gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Oliveira feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

smirnoff escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Oliveira gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Oliveira seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Oliveira stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. smirnoff swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Oliveira got a little sloppy there for a moment and smirnoff has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Oliveira has managed to get both his arms back between smirnoff's legs - danger averted.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
