PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nobunaga Shirow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jorje Slayer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Slayer is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Otep - Battle Ready. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shirow lands a head kick. Slayer smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Slayer is defended easily by Shirow.
Slayer misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Slayer blocks a head kick by Shirow.
Shirow throws a sloppy head kick and Slayer moves out of range easily.
Slayer shoots in and drives through. Shirow sprawls well.

Slayer shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Shirow defends it nicely.
Shirow tries to bum rush Slayer with a series of wild strikes but Slayer uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Slayer shoots in looking for a takedown. Shirow tries to sprawl out of it but Slayer keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Shirow manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Shirow cracks Slayer with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Jorje Slayer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Slayer blocks the body kick.
Shirow throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Shirow throws a head kick but Slayer moves out of range.

Slayer closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Shirow has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Slayer is working away from the top position though.

Slayer is working for a kimura but Shirow is defending it quite comfortably.

Shirow moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Shirow lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Slayer!

Shirow goes for an armbar but Slayer turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Slayer.

Shirow tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Shirow swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Slayer is now in Shirow's guard. A big mistake from Shirow there, giving up the dominant position!
Shirow wants to sweep here but Slayer controlling him for the moment.

Slayer drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Slayer jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Slayer ducks under a wild hook from Shirow.
Shirow lands with an overhand left.
Some bone on bone action there as Slayer checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Shirow scores with a nice body kick.
Shirow lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Slayer backs up against the cage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
No luck for Slayer with that takedown attempt.
Shirow thuds a left hand into Slayer's body.
Shirow throws a head kick but Slayer moves out of range.

Shirow misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Slayer looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Nobunaga Shirow has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jorje Slayer.
Shirow stalks Slayer and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Slayer's face. Slayer staggers backwards, shaken.

and Shirow counters with a big head kick but Slayer shrugs it off.

and Shirow counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Slayer shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Shirow makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Slayer closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Shirow is trying to control Slayer's posture but Slayer avoids it.

Shirow is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Slayer off and has taken his back!
Slayer turns into Shirow and is now in his guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Slayer got a little sloppy there for a moment and Shirow has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Slayer has managed to get both his arms back between Shirow's legs - danger averted.

Slayer swings around for an armbar but Shirow sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Slayer's guard.

Shirow postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Slayer is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Shirow, into his guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Shirow leaves Slayer with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Slayer shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Shirow napping and manages to drive through into side control!
You can see the frustration on Shirow's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Shirow gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Shirow moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Slayer drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Shirow dives on top into guard.

Shirow is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Slayer is looking for a triangle but Shirow pushes his legs off easily.

Shirow trying to control the position from guard on top but Slayer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Shirow stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Slayer swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Shirow throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Slayer works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Shirow drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Slayer manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Shirow has Slayer in his guard.
Slayer postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Slayer thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Slayer wants to pass the guard but Shirow is keeping the position.
Shirow is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Shirow is on top in guard.
Slayer will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Shirow, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
