Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matthew Hopkinson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joseph Mageramsky (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joseph Mageramsky!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Damien Edna and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mageramsky shoots in for a takedown but Hopkinson shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Mageramsky lands with a hook. Hopkinson tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Mageramsky shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hopkinson napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Mageramsky is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Hopkinson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Mageramsky goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Hopkinson has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Mageramsky but great work by Hopkinson.
Mageramsky manages to work his way to half guard, despite Hopkinson's best efforts.

Mageramsky wants to improve his position but Hopkinson is controlling well.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hopkinson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Mageramsky bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hopkinson's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mageramsky drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Mageramsky jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Mageramsky has gone for a leg lock! Hopkinson slips out almost immediately though and dives into Mageramsky's guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Hopkinson trying to control but Mageramsky is working from the bottom.
Hopkinson is really struggling to control Mageramsky but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Mageramsky had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hopkinson defends it easily.

Mageramsky is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hopkinson is aware though and is defending well.
Hopkinson trying to control the position from guard on top but Mageramsky is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Mageramsky is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Mageramsky escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hopkinson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Matthew Hopkinson.
Mageramsky closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hopkinson circles away.

Hopkinson swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Mageramsky misses with a jab, cross combination.
Mageramsky fails with the takedown.
Matthew Hopkinson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joseph Mageramsky.
Mageramsky is looking to clinch.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Hopkinson.
Horrible takedown by Mageramsky or perhaps it was just good defense by Hopkinson which made him look bad.
Mageramsky throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hopkinson's waist but Hopkinson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mageramsky off to one side.

A looping hook to the body misses from Mageramsky. Hopkinson does a little dance to reset his feet.
Mageramsky takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Mageramsky shoots for a takedown but Hopkinson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Hopkinson stalks Mageramsky and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Mageramsky's face. Mageramsky staggers backwards, shaken.
Mageramsky dodges the punch combination from Hopkinson.
Mageramsky tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hopkinson paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Hopkinson rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mageramsky moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Hopkinson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Mageramsky.

and Mageramsky counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Hopkinson!

Hopkinson tries to hold on but Mageramsky pushes him away.

Mageramsky moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Hopkinson has worked his arm free - good work by Hopkinson!

Mageramsky looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
You can see the frustration on Hopkinson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Mageramsky is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Hopkinson is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Hopkinson is looking to reverse the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mageramsky swings around for an armbar but Hopkinson sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Mageramsky's guard.
Hopkinson lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Mageramsky escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hopkinson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Hopkinson won't allow Mageramsky to get back to his feet.
Hopkinson wants to get up but he can't break Mageramsky's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Mageramsky wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Mageramsky pushes Hopkinson off and scrambles back to his feet.
Mageramsky throws a combination that misses
and Hopkinson counters with a one-two to the body.
Joseph Mageramsky seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mageramsky feints and as Hopkinson raises his hands in defense, Mageramsky changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Mageramsky is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Hopkinson is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Hopkinson has escaped and now he's on top!
Hopkinson wants to control from the top but Mageramsky keeps moving.
Mageramsky bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hopkinson's guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mageramsky passes Hopkinson's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Mageramsky is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hopkinson is just riding it out for now. Mageramsky eventually gives up the hold.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Joseph Mageramsky will probably get the nod - 10:9.
