PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Iggy Reznor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mayron Rocha (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mayron Rocha!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Seu Braga and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rocha throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Reznor looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Reznor avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Reznor decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Reznor content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Rocha wants to get back to his feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Iggy Reznor.
Rocha looks to land a combination but Reznor avoids it well.
Rocha lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Rocha.

Reznor on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Rocha throws a right hand that Reznor ducks under and follows up with a left that Reznor also avoids with ease.

Mayron Rocha is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Rocha misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Rocha misses with a wild combination.

Reznor throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Rocha leaves Reznor with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Reznor shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rocha but Rocha pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Rocha looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Reznor misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rocha throws a series of punches but Reznor avoids them all with ease.
Rocha looks to land a combination but Reznor avoids it well.
Rocha throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Iggy Reznor will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


No joy there for Rocha, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

and Reznor counters with a series of strikes. Rocha will be more careful next time no doubt.

Reznor is controlling the pace.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rocha can do anything to dispel that myth.

Rocha pushes Reznor off looking to stand but Reznor dives back in and keeps control.
Reznor wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rocha keeps working.
Reznor is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Rocha is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Reznor is taking a breather. Rocha says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Reznor is trying to control. Rocha wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rocha really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Reznor. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Reznor is trying to control the action in half guard but Rocha is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Reznor wants to pass the guard but Rocha is defending well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rocha makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

so Reznor counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Reznor drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Rocha dives on top into guard.

Reznor is pulling down on Rocha's head to control his posture.

Reznor looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Reznor looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rocha accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Reznor working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rocha doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rocha manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Reznor has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Rocha is fighting to break Reznor's control of his arms but Reznor is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Reznor is looking for a triangle but Rocha pushes his legs off easily.
Reznor is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Reznor controls Rocha momentarily but Rocha frees himself.
Reznor is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Rocha got a little sloppy there for a moment and Reznor has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rocha has managed to get both his arms back between Reznor's legs - danger averted.
Rocha keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Reznor's head.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rocha accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Mayron Rocha has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Rocha lands a couple of digs.
Rocha works over Reznor with some ground and pound from guard.
Iggy Reznor is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Reznor has his foot on Rocha's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rocha works his way back into a safe position though.
Reznor is trying to control the position but Rocha postures up.
Iggy Reznor overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Reznor looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Rocha throws and elbow that misses. Reznor uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Rocha's guard. Nice move by Reznor!

Iggy Reznor showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Reznor, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
