Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 2, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mike Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, David Shields!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Paulo Santos and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A looping hook to the body misses from Shields. Jones does a little dance to reset his feet.
Shields thuds his right hand into Jones's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Shields cracks Jones with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
David Shields seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jones uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Shields.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Shields escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jones gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Jones gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Shields uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Shields is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Jones jumps into side control!

Jones tries to free his leg and advance position but Shields is retaining full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Shields controls Jones momentarily but Jones frees himself.

Jones drops back, looking for a kneebar! Shields looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Shields looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Shields!
Jones is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Shields working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Shields tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Jones on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Shields showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Shields misses with a takedown

and Jones counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Shields is staying active underneath Jones, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shields swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well Shields has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
