PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Shiroi Neko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mauricio Ferreira (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Neko comes into the arena with Machine Head - Halo blaring out of the sound system. Ferreira is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Drop the World. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Mauricio Ferreira was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Shiroi Neko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mauricio Ferreira!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Viktor Lagutenko and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Neko throws out a loose jab but Ferreira uses good head movement to avoid it.
Ferreira is looking to clinch but Neko is avoiding it.
Ferreira tests Neko's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Neko misses with a hook.
Ferreira shoots in for a double leg but Neko sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Neko stalks Ferreira and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Ferreira's face. Ferreira staggers backwards, shaken.


It looks like Mauricio Ferreira has been cut.
Shiroi Neko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Neko pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Ferreira drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Ferreira drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Neko manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Ferreira has Neko in his guard.

Ferreira has an active guard here but Neko has managed to pass into half guard.

Neko tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Ferreira.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Neko is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Ferreira manages to get to full guard.
Ferreira not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Neko is standing up over Ferreira. Ferreira looks to escape but Neko dives into side control.
Ferreira is looking for a sweep.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neko stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Neko's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Ferreira fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Neko sprawls well initially but Ferreira persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Neko is refusing to be controlled, as Ferreira sits in half guard.

Ferreira is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Ferreira is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Neko has managed to free his arm - good work.

Neko is defending against the submission attempts here by Ferreira.

Ferreira is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Neko is just riding it out for now. Ferreira eventually gives up the hold.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Neko loads up on a big right hand but Ferreira slips the punch.
Ferreira throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Neko's waist but Neko gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ferreira off to one side.

Ferreira has managed to clinch.
Ferreira is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Neko is defending well for now.

Ferreira has hold of one of Neko's legs. Neko is fighting the takedown attempt but Ferreira gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Neko can't keep his opponent in guard - Ferreira advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Ferreira is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Neko defends it well.
Neko wants to get back to his feet.

Ferreira is looking for a kimura but Neko is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ferreira to get the leverage.

Ferreira is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Neko sees it coming and defends easily.
Ferreira is breathing heavily.
Ferreira stops Neko from getting back to his feet.

Ferreira looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Mauricio Ferreira showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Ferreira moves out of range of the strikes.
Ferreira is trying hard to land a takedown here. Neko sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Neko misses with a hook. Ferreira ducked under it nicely.
Neko swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Ferreira.
Ferreira tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Neko paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Ferreira shoots in looking for a takedown. Neko tries to sprawl out of it but Ferreira keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Neko manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Ferreira looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Shiroi Neko has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mauricio Ferreira.

Ferreira tries to close the distance and clinch but Neko swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Ferreira seems to be looking for submissions.

Ferreira is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Neko defends it well.
Ferreira is looking to pass Neko's guard but actually Neko recovers to full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Neko jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Neko waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Ferreira.
Mauricio Ferreira is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ferreira displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Neko throws out the jab.
Neko scores with a crisp jab that stopped Ferreira in his tracks.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Neko lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Ferreira circles away quickly and effectively.

Neko gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Ferreira drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Neko dives on top into guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Shiroi Neko.
I think Neko has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
