PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cane Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gian Matteo Ranzi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lee kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Boom n Pow. On his way into the cage it seems that Cane Lee has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Cane Lee seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gian Matteo Ranzi!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ranzi shoots in for a takedown but Lee shows good takedown defense.
Lee looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Lee clinches with his opponent.
Lee throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Ranzi blocks it with crossed arms.
Lee landing knees to the head.


It looks like Gian Matteo Ranzi has been cut.
Lee tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Lee throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Lee using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Ranzi has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Ranzi blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Lee throws a nice looking combination but Ranzi bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Lee throws a right hand that Ranzi ducks under and follows up with a left that Ranzi also avoids with ease.

Lee drives through and clinches with Ranzi against the cage.

Lee jumps guard and drags Ranzi to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Ranzi is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Lee is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Lee has escaped and now he's on top!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ranzi is working an open guard so Lee takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Ranzi shoots in but no luck this time.
Cane Lee has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gian Matteo Ranzi.
Lee wants to clinch up but Ranzi keeps it at a distance.
Lee lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Ranzi circles away quickly and effectively.

Ranzi shoots in and bounces Lee off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Ranzi has gone for a leg lock! Lee slips out almost immediately though and dives into Ranzi's guard.

Ranzi has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Lee can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Lee gets to his feet - Ranzi follows without any prompting.

Lee stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Lee wants it to stay on the feet.

Lee changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Ranzi looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Ranzi sneaks back into half guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Ranzi uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Lee.
Lee moves in looking to clinch but Ranzi pushes him off.
Lee throws a series of punches but Ranzi avoids them all with ease.
Ranzi will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Lee tries to clinch there but Ranzi circles away.

Lee drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Ranzi gets caught flat footed, as Lee shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Ranzi is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Lee is aware though and is defending well.

Lee thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Ranzi had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Lee defends it easily.
Lee knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ranzi on the ground.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Cane Lee.

Lee misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Ranzi jumps guard but Lee stands there with Ranzi around his waist. Ranzi gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Lee breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
The fight stays on the outside here - Lee looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Lee misses with an attempted mid kick.
Ranzi keeps the fight on the outside.

Lee closes the distance and pushes Ranzi back into the cage.

Ranzi is fighting off a takedown attempt but Lee is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Ranzi to the mat. Ranzi regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Lee is posturing up here but Ranzi has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Lee tries to roll out but it's too tight and Lee has to tap! Slick submission there by Ranzi!
