PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Grimm (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Christopher Samba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Samba comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Bezerker by Love Among Freaks kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Grimm!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Christopher Samba!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Robert Twigg and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Grimm is defended easily by Samba.
Grimm will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Samba ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Samba misses with an uppercut.
Grimm shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Samba as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Grimm. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Samba closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Samba lands in his opponent's guard.
Samba controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Samba wants to stand but Grimm has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Samba is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Samba got a little sloppy there for a moment and Grimm has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Samba has managed to get both his arms back between Grimm's legs - danger averted.

Samba tries to free his leg and advance position but Grimm is retaining full guard.

Grimm looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Samba must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Samba is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Grimm looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Samba avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Samba slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Samba misses with a few strikes there.

Samba shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Samba showed some decent athleticism there.
Still in half guard, Samba seems content to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Samba is keen to just control but Grimm is a slippery customer.

Samba seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Grimm does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Grimm is looking for a sweep. Samba is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Samba throws a shot from downtown. Grimm moves away and avoids it.

Grimm takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Grimm keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Samba.
Grimm dives in and grabs Samba's left leg, looking for a takedown. Samba pushes down on Grimm's head and hops out.
Samba misses with a hook. Grimm ducked under it nicely.
Christopher Samba seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Samba misses with an uppercut. Grimm saw that one coming.

Samba shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Grimm is trying to defend but Samba finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The fighters are battling for position here. Grimm manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Samba wants to control from the top but Grimm keeps moving.
Grimm is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Samba is stalling in the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Christopher Samba showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Samba darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Samba scores with the left hand. Grimm knows he should have avoided that one.


It looks like John Grimm has been cut.

Samba takes the fight into the clinch.

Samba has Grimm pressed against the cage.
Samba scores with a shoulder strike.
Grimm letting Samba take a breather here.
Samba lands with a light punch inside.
Grimm jumps guard but Samba stands there with Grimm around his waist. Grimm gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

enabling Samba to counter with a crisp jab.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Grimm. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.

Christopher Samba seems to be getting the better of the standup.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Samba avoids the attempt from Grimm to control.

Christopher Samba comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Samba has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
