PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Steven Mann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and BJ Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Mann might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Roxy Music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Mann as Penn shoots in.
Penn throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mann's waist but Mann gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Penn off to one side.

Penn shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Mann manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Penn passes Mann's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Penn is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Mann doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Penn.

The fighters are battling for position here. Mann manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Penn stops Mann from standing up.

Penn drops back looking for a leg! Mann is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mann manages to kick Penn off! Penn jumps back into Mann's guard.
Penn wants to control from the top but Mann keeps moving.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Mann rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Penn moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Penn dives in and grabs Mann's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mann pushes down on Penn's head and hops out.
Steven Mann has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of BJ Penn.
Penn is trying hard to land a takedown here. Mann sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Mann leaves Penn with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Mann lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Mann.
No luck for Penn with that takedown attempt.

Penn tries to pull guard but Mann holds him up against the cage and eventually Penn drops back down to his feet.

Penn is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Mann gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Mann creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mann makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

Penn tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mann sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Penn somewhat.
Penn closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Mann drops Penn with a naaaaasty hook - Penn is in real trouble here! Mann dives in to side control and pounds out his opponent for a TKO victory! The crowd goes nuts!
