Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Zack Fair (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ramon Labayen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Zack Fair!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ramon Labayen!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Labayen closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Labayen lands in his opponent's guard.
Fair controls Labayen momentarily but Labayen frees himself.

Fair has his foot on Labayen's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Labayen works his way back into a safe position though.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Fair keeping full guard, as Labayen tries to pass.
Labayen is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Labayen drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Fair manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Labayen has Fair in his guard.
Labayen looking to hit a scissor sweep but Fair is one step ahead there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fair trying to control the position from guard on top but Labayen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Labayen wants to stand up but Fair is controlling him.
Fair is looking to work some ground and pound but Labayen has wrist control.

Labayen has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Fair can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Fair trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Labayen trying to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Labayen is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Labayen isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Fair stacks Labayen on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Fair!
Labayen looks gassed!
Labayen tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Labayen avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Fair.
Labayen is trying to control Fair's posture but Fair avoids it.

Fair is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Labayen is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Labayen tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Fair wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Labayen is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Fair is controlling him well.
Labayen tries to improve position but can't.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Fair decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Fair controlling the action here.
Labayen misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Fair works his foot free and advances to mount.
Fair lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Labayen hang on?

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fair postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Labayen looks a forlorn figure.
Fair lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Labayen is trying to reverse the position but instead Fair has taken his back - oops!
Fair doesn't have the hooks in and Labayen manages to turn into his guard.
Fair is trying to keep Labayen in close.

Labayen drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Labayen jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Zack Fair dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.


Fair is trying hard to land a takedown here. Labayen sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Labayen looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Fair takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Fair avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

and Labayen counters with a body kick that stops Fair in his tracks momentarily.

Labayen misses with a series of wild punches.
A left and a right from Labayen both land. Nice combination.

Labayen scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Labayen tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Labayen has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Labayen decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Labayen closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Well, if Labayen is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Fair trying to hold on to Labayen's head to control him but Labayen postures up.
Labayen lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Labayen looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Labayen stops Fair from getting back to his feet.
Labayen looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Fair with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Labayen is trying to work for a kimura but Fair is defending well.
Labayen tries to stand and escape but Fair is controlling the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Labayen is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Labayen thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Labayen winds up and cracks Fair with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Labayen drops an elbow to the side of Fair's head.
Labayen is keen to just control but Fair is a slippery customer.
Labayen prevents Fair from improving his position.

Labayen is working for a kimura but Fair is defending it quite comfortably.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Fair manages to get to full guard.

Labayen is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Fair is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Fair has escaped and now he's on top!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ramon Labayen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Labayen closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Labayen moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Fair clinches.
Fair tries for a takedown but Labayen manages to get underhooks.
Fair wants to break the clinch but can't.
Labayen leaning his opponent against the ropes.
Labayen scores with a hook to the body.

Labayen pulls guard.
Labayen trying to keep a closed guard but Fair is proving a slippery customer.
Labayen looking to hit a scissor sweep but Fair is one step ahead there.

Labayen looking for a guillotine here but Fair defends easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Labayen keeping full guard, as Fair tries to pass.
Labayen manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Fair manages to get himself to full guard.

Labayen stands up and waves to Fair to follow him.
Fair misses with a takedown

and Labayen counters with a nice double leg into side control. Fair won't be happy with that.
Labayen taking a break here but Fair is having none of it and regains half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Labayen is working for a kimura but Fair is defending it quite comfortably.

Labayen looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Fair tries to kick Labayen off but Labayen keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fair has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Labayen is working away from the top position though.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Labayen in particular looking to stall.
Fair is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Labayen scores with a couple of nice shots.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Labayen winds up and cracks Fair with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Labayen seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Labayen is looking to take a break and control but Fair is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Labayen is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Fair tries to roll over but Labayen keeps him under control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ramon Labayen comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Labayen has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
