PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nikos Schortsanitis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Janek Grzmot (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Schortsanitis's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Ipoxthonios - Kane Ntou. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Janek Grzmot was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nikos Schortsanitis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Janek Grzmot!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, John Roberts and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Grzmot decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Grzmot is working for a kimura but Schortsanitis is defending it quite comfortably.

Grzmot is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Schortsanitis sees it coming and defends easily.
Grzmot performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Grzmot trying to control from Schortsanitis's half guard. Schortsanitis has other ideas though and has regained full guard.

Grzmot pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Schortsanitis is keeping the position for now.

Grzmot thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Grzmot stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Schortsanitis swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Schortsanitis keeping moving, preventing Grzmot from controlling successfully.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Grzmot seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Grzmot thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Schortsanitis knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Grzmot on the ground.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Schortsanitis thows a body shot but no joy.

Grzmot shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Grzmot showed some decent athleticism there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Grzmot is looking for submissions but instead, Schortsanitis has regained full guard.

Grzmot has gone for a leg lock! Schortsanitis slips out almost immediately though and dives into Grzmot's guard.

Grzmot looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Schortsanitis passes into half guard.

Schortsanitis tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Grzmot.
Grzmot is trying to maintain the position but Schortsanitis is very close to passing his half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Janek Grzmot dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Schortsanitis misses with an uppercut.
Schortsanitis thows a body shot but no joy.

Grzmot shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Grzmot is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Schortsanitis is just riding it out for now. Grzmot eventually gives up the hold.

Grzmot is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Grzmot takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Grzmot is trying to work for a kimura but Schortsanitis is defending well.
Grzmot stops Schortsanitis from getting back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Schortsanitis scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Grzmot manages to mount him!

Grzmot looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Grzmot has control of Schortsanitis's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Schortsanitis regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Schortsanitis is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Grzmot takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Grzmot can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Schortsanitis is looking to escape.
Grzmot fails to advance to Schortsanitis's back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Janek Grzmot showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Schortsanitis fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Grzmot.
Schortsanitis fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Grzmot checks it well.
Schortsanitis stuffs the takedown.
Grzmot shoots in and drives through. Schortsanitis sprawls well.
Nikos Schortsanitis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Janek Grzmot.
Schortsanitis misses with the combination.
Grzmot showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Schortsanitis.
Grzmot misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Schortsanitis looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Schortsanitis misses with a few strikes there.

Grzmot shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Schortsanitis napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Grzmot tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Grzmot has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Grzmot is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Schortsanitis knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Grzmot. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Grzmot is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Schortsanitis has escaped the position, nice work there.
Nikos Schortsanitis has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Schortsanitis is not content to let Grzmot control the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

I've got Grzmot winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
