PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jyn Karinzo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ludwig Manres (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Manres comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Aqualung - Jethro Tull kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Ludwig Manres told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ludwig Manres!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Albert Achterberg and Wagner Zegers.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Manres shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Manres is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Karinzo is surviving well by controlling Manres's body position as best he can.
Manres unloads with some shots from mount but Karinzo bucks and avoids them well.
Manres prevents Karinzo from getting the reversal.
Manres looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Manres throws a sloppy strike and Karinzo uses the opportunity to reverse the position! A bit of a scramble here and Karinzo has ended up in Manres's guard.

Manres working for a triangle but Karinzo defends it easily.

Manres working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Karinzo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Karinzo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Manres accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Karinzo pushes Manres up against the cage in a clinch.

Manres gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Karinzo regains guard.
Karinzo bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Manres's guard.

Manres had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Karinzo defends it easily.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Manres is not content to let Karinzo control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The strikes coming from Karinzo are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Karinzo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Manres regains half guard.
Karinzo is just content to waste time from the top position. Manres takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Manres has his foot on Karinzo's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Karinzo works his way back into a safe position though.

Karinzo is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Manres knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Manres tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Ludwig Manres dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Manres decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Karinzo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Manres is working away from the top position though.

Manres seems to be looking for submissions.

Manres shoots in for a takedown but Karinzo shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Karinzo throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Manres was covering up waiting for the punch and Karinzo finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Karinzo drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Manres manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Karinzo has Manres in his guard.

Manres is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Ludwig Manres has got the better of the ground game so far.
Karinzo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Karinzo manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
The referee warns Manres that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Manres is desperately trying to improve his position but Karinzo has a good base and remains in mount.
Karinzo thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Karinzo goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Manres turns into him and now he's in Karinzo's guard.

Ludwig Manres showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Karinzo just misses with a punch to the body.

Manres feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Manres postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Karinzo wants to hit a switch here but Manres passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Karinzo there!
Manres pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Karinzo sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Manres looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Karinzo with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Manres misses with a head shot. Karinzo uses the momentum to regain guard.

Manres drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Karinzo dives on top into guard.

Manres is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Karinzo passes Manres's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Karinzo seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Manres does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
