PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jun Kimura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and kurt pike (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jun Kimura!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, kurt pike!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Shirou Masuda and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
pike misses with a wild body shot.

Kimura looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
pike wants to get back to his feet.
pike won't allow Kimura to pass to mount.
Kimura is working hard here to advance position.
pike is trying to stand.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kimura wants to pass to mount but pike is defending the position.
pike is trying to stand up here but Kimura is controlling him well.
Kimura scoring with strikes to the body and head.
pike pushes Kimura off looking to stand but Kimura dives back in and keeps control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kimura trying to control the action but pike is working from the bottom.
Kimura working pike over with strikes.
Kimura working the head and body with strikes.
Kimura prevents pike from standing back up.
pike looks gassed!
pike has hold of Kimura's hands but Kimura slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Kimura has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Kimura moves to take his opponent's back.
Kimura lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Kimura.
Kimura is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Kimura gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Kimura gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Kimura apologises and we restart here on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
pike throws a series of punches but Kimura moves out of range.
pike is looking to clinch.
pike tries for a takedown but Kimura circles away easily

and Kimura counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
pike wants to get back to his feet but Kimura is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Kimura keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of pike's head.
pike being controlled here, momentarily.
Kimura slips nicely into half guard.
Kimura working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Kimura passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for pike!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
pike wants to get back to his feet.
Kimura lands with some vicious ground and pound - can pike hang on?

Kimura working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. pike looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Kimura! Submission of the night perhaps?

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Jun Kimura!
Jun Kimura retains his lightweight title!
