PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Takezzo Manto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kelvin Redondo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kelvin Redondo told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Takezzo Manto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kelvin Redondo!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Redondo bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Redondo looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Redondo is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Manto has escaped the position, nice work there.
Manto is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Redondo's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Redondo stops Manto from getting back to his feet.
Manto gets full guard.
Manto controls Redondo momentarily but Redondo frees himself.
Manto manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Redondo manages to get himself to full guard.

Manto drops back looking for a leg! Redondo is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Redondo manages to kick Manto off! Manto jumps back into Redondo's guard.

Manto is pushing down on Redondo's leg trying to pass to half guard. Redondo is fighting to maintain full guard but Manto has managed to sneak the leg through.
Manto scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Manto lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Redondo is defending against the submission attempts here by Manto.

Manto is working for a submission of some sort.

Redondo wants to get back to full guard.
Manto trying to mount his opponent but Redondo defends it.
Redondo is trying to stand up here but Manto is controlling him well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Manto throws a sloppy head kick and Redondo moves out of range easily.

Manto is refusing to be controlled, as Redondo sits in half guard.

Redondo is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Redondo is trying to control the action in half guard but Manto is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Takezzo Manto will probably get the nod.

Manto pushes Redondo up against the cage in a clinch.
Manto is pressed up against the cage. Redondo has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Manto down to the mat. Manto avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

and Manto holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Manto has hold of one of Redondo's legs. Redondo is fighting the takedown attempt but Manto gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Redondo wants to improve his position but instead Manto has moved into half guard.

Redondo wants to get back to his feet.
Manto passes into side control, despite Redondo's attempt to control the position.

Manto decides to stand up, so the ref orders Redondo to his feet.

Manto tries to move to mount but Redondo blocks the move with his legs.

Redondo is trying to control but can't.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Redondo is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Manto's half guard.

Redondo is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Redondo is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Redondo stands up and beckons Manto to join him on the feet.

and Manto counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Redondo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Redondo bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Manto's guard.

Redondo wants to control but Manto is keeping him busy.

Redondo is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Redondo is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Redondo wants to take a breather but Manto is having none of it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Manto wants to control the action here but instead Redondo manages to pass to full mount!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Takezzo Manto dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

and Manto decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Redondo's guard.

Manto decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Redondo, up you get!
Manto swings for the body but Redondo moves out of range.
Redondo shoots and misses

so Manto counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Redondo is pulling down on Manto's head to control his posture.

Redondo is trying to hold Manto in close to prevent damage but Manto has managed to pass into half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Redondo has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Manto off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Manto has taken the fight to the clinch.
Redondo is working for takedown but Manto is calmly controlling the position for now.
Takezzo Manto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kelvin Redondo.

Redondo tightens his grip and picks Manto up, before dumping him to the ground. Manto manages to land in guard.
Manto wants to stand but Redondo is controlling the position.
Redondo tries to free his leg and advance position but Manto is retaining full guard.
Manto is trying to control the position but Redondo postures up.

Redondo drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Manto dives on top into guard.

Redondo manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Redondo looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Redondo with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.
Manto is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Redondo trying to control but Manto is having none of it.
A nice elbow there by Redondo.
Redondo cracks Manto with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Redondo stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

Redondo shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Manto is trying to defend but Redondo finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Redondo decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Takezzo Manto.
Well Manto has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
