Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Wolfgang Messer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Jakes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Wolfgang Messer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 1, fighting out of New York, Jim Jakes!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Alyssa Summers and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jakes shoots in looking for a takedown. Messer tries to sprawl out of it but Jakes keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Messer manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Jakes slips under a jab.
Messer throws a combination. Jakes tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Messer rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Jakes moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Messer fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Messer fails in his attempt to clinch.
Messer blocks the body kick.
Messer misses with a wild combination.
Messer misses with a takedown attempt - Jakes sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Jakes tries to clinch but Messer moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Messer throws a head kick that misses.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Jakes has eaten all the pies!
Jakes slips a jab and a cross from Messer.
Messer shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

so Jakes counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Wolfgang Messer. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Messer trying to control the position here.
Jakes trying to control the position from guard on top but Messer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jakes stops Messer from standing up.
Messer is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Messer working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Jakes.
Messer controls Jakes momentarily but Jakes frees himself.
Messer wants to sweep here but Jakes controlling him for the moment.
Messer is breathing heavily.
Messer wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Messer throws a nice looking combination but Jakes bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Jakes tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Messer swivels and escapes.
Jakes lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!


It looks like Wolfgang Messer has been cut.
Jakes fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jakes shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Messer pinned against the cage. Messer gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Messer lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Jakes at a distance.
Messer shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Jakes as he avoids it easily.

Jakes changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Messer looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Messer manages to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jakes prevents Messer from improving his position.
Messer is not content to let Jakes control the position.
Messer tries to roll over but Jakes keeps him under control.
Jakes is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Messer is hurt! He's hurt bad - Jakes fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Messer from any more punishment! Congratulations to Jakes! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:02 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jim Jakes!
