The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Apina closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Apina wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by rocco, who protects the arm well.
Apina is looking to take a break and control but rocco is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Apina tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Apina has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
rocco is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Apina asserts his dominance and retains side control.

The ground and pound from Apina seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Apina is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, rocco has escaped the position, nice work there.
Apina tries to advance to mount but rocco denies him.
Apina in side control, throwing shots but rocco defends.
Apina throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Apina postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Apina has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
rocco avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Apina.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
rocco is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Apina is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. rocco knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

rocco pushes Apina away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Apina gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
