PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tami Flu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ray Den (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Flu comes to the cage accompanied by Disturbed- down with the sickness. The key to victory for Tami Flu has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tami Flu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ray Den!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Johanna Lukiainen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Flu will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Den gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Flu counters with a low kick, right behind Den 's knee.
Den chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Flu can pounce on him.
Den fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Den looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Flu is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Den tries to free his leg and advance position but Flu is retaining full guard.
Den really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Flu. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Den stopping the sweep attempt from Flu.
Flu wants to get back to his feet but Den is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Flu looking for a sweep. Not yet Flu, not yet.
Den is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Flu wants to stand up but Den is controlling him.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Flu tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Den fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Flu sprawls well initially but Den persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Den stops Flu from getting back to his feet.

and Den counters with a single leg into guard. Flu didn't expect that.

Den not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Flu is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Den dives into side control.
Flu prevents Den from moving into mount.
Flu is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Den is looking to take a break and control but Flu is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Den takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Flu shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Den manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Flu throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Den works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Flu is in close to Den's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Den tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Flu postures up in Den's guard and throws a big left but Den blocks it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Flu throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Den works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Flu drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Den manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Flu has Den in his guard.
Flu is looking to stand back up but Den counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Flu.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ray Den dominated that round.
That's time! Flu's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Den shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Flu manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Flu pushes Den off and gets back to his feet.

Den bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Flu is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Den trying to control the position but Flu is working away.
Flu is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Den is controlling him well.

Flu is looking to get back to his feet here but Den is keeping cool and he's managed to take Flu's back.
Flu is trying to stand back up.
Den trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Flu doesn't escape.
Flu controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Den is riding his opponent, not letting Flu buck him off.

Flu breaks Den's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Den looking for a sweep. Not yet Den, not yet.
Flu throws a big right hand that misses.
Flu scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Flu is looking to work some ground and pound but Den has wrist control.
Den working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Flu.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Den can do anything to dispel that myth.
Flu stands up over Den, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Flu loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Flu shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Den has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Flu walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Den checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Flu striking off his back but it's not causing Den any problems.

Flu has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Flu avoids the head kick by Den.
Den checks a low kick from Flu.

Den shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Flu is trying to stand up.

Ray Den is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Flu tries to hold on but Den pushes him away.
