Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Yuri Rook (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sid Sydney (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rook comes to the cage accompanied by Mr Krinkle. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Yuri Rook!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sid Sydney!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Eliza Hachem and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rook swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Rook takes a swing at Sydney's ribcage but misses.

Sydney gets a clinch.

Sydney manages to break the clinch.
Rook throws a body punch but Sydney moves out of range.
Sydney misses with a body shot

and Rook counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Rook stands and throws Sydney's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Rook tries to advance to mount but Sydney instead regains half guard.
Rook wants to take a breather but Sydney is having none of it.
Rook is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Rook is working for a kimura here but Sydney manages to reverse the position and he's now in Rook's guard.

Sydney controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Rook wants to sweep here but Sydney controlling him for the moment.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rook pulls Sydney in close to prevent any damage.

Sydney wants to pass the guard but Rook is keeping the position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Sydney trying to control but Rook is working from the bottom.
Sydney is looking to stand up but Rook won't let him.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Sydney takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Sydney steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Rook.
Sydney misses the jab.
Sydney displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Rook.
Rook lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

and Sydney counters with a shoot takedown. Rook fights it but they end up in guard.

Sydney drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Rook manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Sydney has Rook in his guard.
Sydney is trying to keep Rook in close.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rook not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Rook stands and throws Sydney's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Rook remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Sydney is not content to let Rook control the position.
Sydney manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rook passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Sydney!

That's time! Rook's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Rook throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Rook lands a slapping body shot.
Rook lands with a hook. Sydney tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.


It looks like Sid Sydney has been cut.
Sydney is looking to slow Rook down with leg kicks.
Rook misses with a body shot.
Sydney keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Rook.
Rook wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rook throws a left and a right that both miss
and Sydney counters with a one-two to the body.
Rook tests Sydney's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Rook lands a nice shot to the body.
Rook connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Rook slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Sydney is breathing heavily.
Sydney tries to work over Rook's front leg with a kick but Rook checks it.
The fighters circling - Rook throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Rook cracks a nice hook into Sydney's ribs.
Yuri Rook seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sydney has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Rook finds it's way round the side to connect with Sydney's head.


Sydney is rocked!

Sydney takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Sydney is still on wobbly legs! Can Rook finish him?

Rook changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sydney looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Sydney is trying to improve his position.

Rook is trying to get an arm triangle but Sydney is defending well.
Sydney seems to have recovered his senses.
Rook looking to control but instead Sydney has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
Rook seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Sydney does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Sydney wants to improve his position but Rook is controlling well.
Rook is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Rook wants to free his trapped foot but Sydney is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Rook stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sydney swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Rook has gone for a leg lock! Sydney slips out almost immediately though and dives into Rook's guard.
Rook looking for a sweep. Not yet Rook, not yet.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Sydney walks into a jab.
Rook lands a nice shot to the body.
Rook looks to land a right hand but Sydney moved out of range.
Rook misses with a body shot.

The cut man is working on Sid Sydney's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Sydney throws the kick towards the body but Rook avoids it.
Sydney slips a straight right by Rook.
Rook misses with a wild body shot.
Sydney ducks under a wild hook from Rook.

Sydney is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Rook's half guard.
Sydney is stalling here. Rook is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Sydney seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Rook has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Rook tries to move to mount but Sydney blocks the move with his legs.

Rook wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Sydney, who protects the arm well.
Yuri Rook overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Rook swings around for an armbar but Sydney sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Rook's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Rook is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Rook controls Sydney momentarily but Sydney frees himself.
Rook keeping full guard, as Sydney tries to pass.

Sydney thows a big elbow that misses.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Rook shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Rook wants to pass to mount but Sydney is defending the position.

Sydney is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Sid Sydney has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Rook is on top in guard.
Rook tries to free his leg and advance position but Sydney is retaining full guard.
Rook passes Sydney's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Rook with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Sydney is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Rook pulls his head out easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rook thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Sydney's head.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Yuri Rook.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Rook, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
