Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Marcus Hayes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lew Shelby (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hayes comes to the cage accompanied by My Sacrifice. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Marcus Hayes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lew Shelby!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Steve Erwin and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hayes closes the distance and clinches.

Hayes wants the takedown. Shelby is fighting it off but Hayes persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Shelby's guard against the cage.

Shelby looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shelby wants to get back to his feet but Hayes is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Hayes trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Hayes wants to control from the top but Shelby keeps moving.
Hayes stands up over Shelby, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Hayes trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Shelby keeping moving, preventing Hayes from controlling successfully.

Shelby has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hayes can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Hayes working some strikes from top position.

Hayes drops back, looking for a kneebar! Shelby looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Shelby looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Shelby!
Hayes tries to bench press Shelby off him but Shelby keeps the position.

Shelby swings around for an armbar but Hayes sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Shelby's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hayes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shelby swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Hayes stands and steps away. Shelby gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hayes lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Shelby throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Hayes.

Hayes rushes Shelby and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Hayes decides to pull guard.
Hayes looking to hit a scissor sweep but Shelby is one step ahead there.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Hayes is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Hayes pulls guard effortlessly.
Hayes keeping moving, preventing Shelby from controlling successfully.
Shelby postures up in Hayes's guard and throws a big left but Hayes blocks it.

Hayes is looking for a triangle but Shelby pushes his legs off easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hayes wants to hit a switch here but Shelby passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Hayes there!

Shelby is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Hayes to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Hayes shrugs it off.
Hayes keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Shelby fails to move to back control.
Hayes tries to hold on but Shelby pushes him away.
Hayes can't escape the position.

Shelby stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Hayes is breathing heavily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hayes misses with a takedown attempt - Shelby sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Lew Shelby is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Hayes looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Shelby works over Hayes's head and body with a nice combination.


It looks like Marcus Hayes has been cut.
Shelby throws a one two combo.
Shelby throws a sloppy head kick and Hayes moves out of range easily.
Hayes closes this distance looking for a takedown but Shelby circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Marcus Hayes. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hayes shoots in but Shelby avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Hayes moves out of range as Shelby throws a body kick.
Hayes throws a series of punches but Shelby avoids them all with ease.
Nice sprawl there from Shelby as Hayes shoots in.
Shelby stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Shelby misses with a few strikes there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Marcus Hayes will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Hayes changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Hayes shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Shelby defends it nicely.
Hayes misses with a takedown attempt - Shelby sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
A head kick misses from Shelby.
Shelby throws a head kick that misses.
Shelby throws a head kick but Hayes moves out of range.
A big right from Shelby misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shelby ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hayes moves away.
Shelby leaves Hayes with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Marcus Hayes. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Shelby throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.


Hayes is rocked!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Hayes is defended easily by Shelby.
Oh Hayes is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Shelby connects with a body shot.
Hayes switches off momentarily and Shelby cracks him with a monster right hand! Hayes topples backwards and makes a semi conscious attempt to cover up, as Shelby dives in to land one more shot, before the referee has time to call the fight. What a finish by Shelby!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Lew Shelby!
