PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nathan Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Danny Wilkinson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Williams might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Put a Doink On It. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Nathan Williams!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Danny Wilkinson!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Steven Brown and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Williams fails with an attempt to clinch.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Williams.
Horrible takedown by Williams or perhaps it was just good defense by Wilkinson which made him look bad.
Williams moves in looking to clinch but Wilkinson pushes him off.

Williams shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Williams postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Wilkinson to stand up.
Williams avoids the head kick by Wilkinson.
Williams shoots for a takedown but Wilkinson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nathan Williams. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Wilkinson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Williams sprawls well initially but Wilkinson persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Wilkinson wants to stand up but Williams is controlling the position.
Wilkinson is tying to control. Williams wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Wilkinson seems to be working for a kimura but Williams defends the submission attempt.
Wilkinson tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Williams.
Williams trying to hold on to Wilkinson's head to control him but Wilkinson postures up.
Williams manages to get to full guard.
Williams is trying to keep Wilkinson in close.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Wilkinson trying to control but Williams is working from the bottom.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Williams shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Williams uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Wilkinson.
Wilkinson should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Wilkinson closes the distance looking to clinch

and Williams counters with a nice double leg into side control. Wilkinson won't be happy with that.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Williams is breathing heavily.
Wilkinson wants to control but Williams postures up.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Wilkinson can do anything to dispel that myth.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Williams stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Wilkinson clinches up against the cage.
Williams can't break the clinch.
Wilkinson drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Wilkinson lands a hook to the side of the head.

Williams breaks the clinch.

Wilkinson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Williams is looking for a sweep.

Wilkinson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Williams knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Sloppy strikes there by Wilkinson.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
You can see the frustration on Williams's face as Wilkinson controls the position.

Wilkinson stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Wilkinson closes the distance looking to clinch

and Williams counters with a single leg into guard. Wilkinson didn't expect that.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Wilkinson looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Williams is defending well. Wilkinson quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Williams has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Wilkinson celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Danny Wilkinson!
