PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hudson Beckett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lucky Strike (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Hudson Beckett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Lucky Strike!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Albert Achterberg and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Strike tries to close the distance and clinch up but Beckett swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Beckett shoots in looking for a takedown. Strike tries to sprawl out of it but Beckett keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Strike manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Beckett cracks Strike with a good jab.

Strike rushes Beckett and presses him up against the ropes.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Strike.
A frustrated look appears on Strike's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Strike stops a takedown attempt from Beckett.
Strike with a knee to the head.
Strike gets underhooks to prevent Beckett's takedown attempt.

Strike manages to break the clinch.

Strike gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Beckett to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Strike is working an open guard so Beckett takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Beckett closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Beckett lands in his opponent's guard.

Beckett is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Strike is just riding it out for now. Beckett eventually gives up the hold.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Beckett is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Strike is trying to stand back up but Beckett is controlling him

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Strike throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Strike has managed to clinch.
Strike putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Beckett in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Strike wanted to stand there but Beckett had control of the position.
Oh Beckett is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Beckett seems to have got his legs back now.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Beckett is trying to keep Strike in close.

Beckett tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Beckett has a closed guard, preventing Strike from standing up.

Strike got a little sloppy there for a moment and Beckett has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Strike has managed to get both his arms back between Beckett's legs - danger averted.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
A telegraphed right hand from Beckett misses the target.
Lucky Strike is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Strike tries to close the distance and clinch but Beckett swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Beckett fails to pull guard.

Beckett wants to control from the top but Strike keeps moving.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Beckett steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Strike. That one must have hurt.

Strike moves into the clinch.

Strike breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Strike wants to clinch.
Strike tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Beckett paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Beckett shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Strike pinned against the cage. Strike gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Strike gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Beckett decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Beckett blocks a head kick by Strike.
Beckett changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Strike tries to avoid it but Beckett manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Strike to the ground. Strike escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Lucky Strike comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Strike has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
